The reward for winning your division is being assured a playoff seed.
Denver's overall record was the same as Sacramento, but Sacramento has a much better conference record- so without winning their "division", Denver wouldn't be in the playoffs (but that's slanted because I have no idea how much Den's starters rested at the end of the season).
Being assured a playoff seed is more than enough reward as far as I'm concerned.
I love the NBA's system of better record determines home advantage- unlike the NFL for example. Anyone who wins a shitty division should not be automatically given home advantage.
It'll be even better next year when teams like Cleveland and Dallas won't get forced playing in the "tough" bracket because of the way it's set up now.
