Andy LaRoche is going to be good. He walks more than he Ks and has decent power. Although with the Pirates drafting Pedro Alvarez he could be in the majors next year or 2 after he signs.

the pirates already have alvarez and walker who could become the pirates answer at third base so i'm not sure what their strategy is

After 16 seasons, you get used to it. I just like how the new management said they are bringing in change and winning ways, yet they are repeating the same formula as years past. Anyone with talent, give away. I do think LaRoche will do better than Bautista. Their farm leagues is nothing real impressive. The Spikes, for one, are so damn horrible.

They would have to commit to a pretty high payroll if they were to ever truly compete... the Cubs keep expanding theirs and the Cards and Brewers aren't far behind... if Mark Cuban buys the Cubs the Pirates might just want to fold-up and quit lol

teams dont trade for useless minor leaguers, they try to get diamonds in the rough or guys with some upside

when you acquire 6 minor leaguers you hope to find a guy or 2 that will blossom into promising if not very talented big leaguers

odds are they got SOMETHING decent in return

They had a chance to get Cuban a few years ago, but they did not want him to have it. He is a Pittsburgh native, would have been great if he got it.
