So why does joe dumars get praise for being a great gm?

I mean come on man,yea he put together a great team thats gettin old with the exception of tyshaun and rip. I give him props for finding tyshaun in the draft and putting together the back court of horse teeth and rip but why does no one mention that they should have carmelo,wade or chris bosh on they team? He picked darko over all them allstars correct? why no backlash? Pistons fans trying to forget bout that or are ya'll scared to crucify him for being a idiot?

How about taking a chance on billups when he was getting passed around from team to team. How about taking a chance on rasheed who was a hot head that fell short in portland and getting him for virtually nothing. How about going out and producing a bench out of a bunch of nobodies no ones ever heard of who are mostly rookies lol. He is a great gm, if he wasnt, id give him the same treatment we gave flip. Im not saying he hasnt passed up opportunities but every gm has at some point.

1 bad decision in how many years

and Carmelo is the only justifiable one out of those 3, no one knew Dwayne Wade from Marquette was going to become D-Wade and same with Bosh, at least Melo was coming off a championship

Their style has changed highly since larry brown left when it was all defense, no offense, and maximum passing the ball around to get shots. Not to mention i constantly see flip drawing up plays when i watch the games lol.

Ive seen Sheed get heated and almost pick up a tech a few times and get pissed at flip for benching him. He does have say in it, sometimes i wish they coached theirselves instead. Flip's coaching style is a love and hate thing with me.

They had the luxury of taking a player and letting him develop and didn't need someone to come and contribute right away. So I think that's why there is less backlash. Perhaps if they were a lottery team and made that pick then there would be more heat on the pick. He never got the chance to do much in Detroit though.

I was one of those who wanted Carmello to come at the time too. Now that I think about it though, the pistons style has never been suitable for a selfish type of allstar who commands a lot of shots. But I still think dumars obviously didn't make the best move there. Hes made alot more work than not work though and theyre consistently in the running. Everytime we get rid of someone who isnt working out or dont wanna be there (ben wallace, okur) he finds a way to make it work. I think thats where he gets alot of credit. Many people thought we'd crash and burn after ben wallace left, he went out and found a bunch of rookies/decent vets to put a better bench together than we've had since we last won it. I think thats hard to do.

And to the comment of them getting old. billups not so much, rasheed and mycdyess yes. Thats why we're developing guys like maxiell, amir johnson, and chiek samb whos in D league and is a 7 footer with amazing shot blocking ability. The reason I like him is because hes been making shit work when it shouldn't and when the big time players are going to be gone.

if the team he put together hadn't of won the title that year, he'd be getting roasted right now for the darko thing. especially when the pistons become cellar dwellers in a few years. but winning a championship goes a long way.

Yea thats what i mean. in a few years they gonna be old and stuck. They couldn't score against the cavs defense in the playoffs last year and with melo i think they could have had a shot to score more and win. I'm glad tho so i wanna thank joey cuz in a few years (like next year) lebron gonna be doin the same thing jordan did to ya'll every year

Yea i ain't sayin he not a good gm but great? nah he not great imo. Rasheed is the oil to ya'll cogs cuz he make shit work. when he has a bad game ya'll lose most of those games. I thought ya'll would be better when ben left cuz i thought he held ya'll back offensively. Now he holding us back offensively lmao. Ya'll seem to get tired in the playoffs and you think that bench full of rookies and nobodys gonna step up in the postseason? The cavs bench is better than the pistons

old and stuck? Eh. Apparently you dont follow rookies. Stuckey, Amir Johnson, Chiek Samb, Maxiell, Affalo are all looking terribly promising. Stuckeys already leading the troops coming off the bench and hes nothing but a rookie with a fucked up hand lol, his driving ability is nuts. Thats not to mention who they will pick up in the meantime. I believe we have someones draft pick coming up for trading delfino. Cavs roster is the one you should worry about lol. Ben wallace, joe smith, damon jones, eric snow, Wally, Zydrunas, are all in between their 8th and 13th year in the league lol. Are you somehow a young team all of a sudden? I dont follow. You're gonna have to do a little better than that.

im going to stop this discussion there. Pistons have one of the best benches in the league and put up between 30-50 points in most games. You can check the numbers on NBA.com if you need to.

You really must be out of your mind, the bench we have this year is similar to the bench we had when we won it all. We had zero bench last year. Not to mention we just picked up dixon was starting in toronto not too long ago and a veteran in Theo Ratliff who is already averaging 3 blocked shots a game with us. Lindsey will also play in the playoffs who is a defensive monster and Maxiell has been playing like a beast against the best of teams as well as stuckey

Tell me, who are these washups coming off the bench for you producing more? Damon Jones who cant make a shot unless hes wide open?

The pick they used for Stuckey was a part of the Darko trade also.

Exactly, and i still think we have 2 more draft picks to use up away from the ones we have already. Stuck is already proving to be a promising grab. Hes been putting up 10 or better against great teams nowadays

I dont know if hes thinking we're going to make zero trades in the next 3-6 years and stay the exact same or what. But its not going to happen. Pistons are in great shape for the future and only getting smoother.
