Yeah, I was a skeptic all year, but the SEC proved to be the best conference after it was all said and done. Big ups to LSU.

3-5 bowl record for the big ten...ouch. so much for being an elite conference even the big 12 and the pac 10 did way better than that.

While the SEC was the best this year, you can't really weigh a conference's strength by aggregate bowl records.

Using the final AP & Coaches Polls rankings:
Big 10 played: #1LSU(L), #2/3 USC(L), #10/11Boston College(L), #12 Tennessee(L), #13/16 Florida(W), OK St.(L), Tex A&M(W), Central Michigan(W)

SEC played: #4/5OSU (W), #4/5Mizzou(L), #17/19Hawaii (W), #18/19Michigan(L), #21/22 Clemson(W), #21/24 Wisconsin(W), Florida St(W), Colorado(W), UCF(W)

So the SEC did play 1 more ranked team in the bowl games, but only 2 in the top 15, while the Big 10 played 5 in the top 15.

I don't know about the regular season, but since the pollsters love to rank any SEC team with a winning record, I think out of conference games against ranked teams would be a better measure of schedule strength, and we know the SEC plays the most 1AA schools every year.

why do people hate the SEC? SEC teams are clearly on another level...CLEARLY...across the board...CLEARLY the best conference in college football.

The only reason Florida lost to Michigan was by the grace of the Football Gods but that's ok...we can't go undefeated in bowl games every year

SEC vs. Big 10 was never debateable all season and it sure as hell isn't now.

damn @ Herbstreit (an OSU guy) saying this loss sets the Big 10 back to the days of the 1960's where I guess they were irrelevant.

thank you jesus for somebody that doesn't have their head up their ass. SEC may play more 1aa teams than anybody else but they also play more ranked teams than anybody else (3/4 of the SEC was in the top 25 this year).

lol @ skewed stats like "more ranked teams".... but they're the worst of the ranked teams. When other conferences play 1 or 2 less but the better of the ranked...

and don't forget...

the SEC has about 30 fucking teams.... them playing the most ranked opponents means jack shit unless they're playing about double, seeing as how they're twice the size of normal conferences.

The SEC routinely has the best recruiting classes and the best coaches... those factor into rankings and perceived greatness... also their history of having the most national championships of any other conference is big.

Only on this board is the SEC's reputation of greatness questioned... but other conferences know... other coaches know... nearly every football analyst and critic knows.

Sure, the Big 10 may have more players in the NFL right NOW... but of all time, the all time greats and HOF players are dominated by the SEC. But fuck the NFL argument, this is college...

The SEC fails to put out as many NFL starters, and they never have the big names. They're just aggressive. That's it.

plus they play in warm weather all year. 8 home games. and beat up on each other's shitty squads. I still don't understand how that 'beat up on each other' shit works, when the NFC is mocked because they "beat up on each other". Truth is, they're all equally bland other than a few teams, and those teams don't lose when they're hot.


I don't say they aren't the best conference. They're just not near as good as they're made out to be. They aren't dominant. They aren't clearly better than any other conference either. LSU lost to arkansas and Kentucky. Neither of those teams did well playing other good teams from oth
