I think the Contender is good for entertainment, but terrible for the fighters.

If you got more than like 6-8 fights under your belt there is no reason you should be still fighting like 5 round fights.

i just hate the over dramatic scenes they got..

dudes in the locker room and its dark and gloomy as hell with their family crying as they hang up their gloves..

they got sound fx on the fighters breathing with highlighted moments of the fight...

It's a great show, but you have to take it for what it's worth. A lot of the fighters could hold their own with well known fighters. Walter Wright could hang with many welters given time to train...

but these guys have what....12 hours to figure out their opponent only to fight 6 rounds where they can't really strategize, especially if they're used to using pure boxing skills to win fights.

Jaidon Codrington lol.... I havent seen him since Allen Green tore his face off. He's a decent prospect though.

contender is retarded for anybody really wanting to be something.

What in the world are guys with 20+ fights doing fighting in the contender where you get like 5 rounds??

The contender should group a bunch of young AMATEURS, no pro needs to be fighting 5 round fights once they have like 8 fights in them

The Contender gets you something that 95% of boxers in the world will never get, and that's exposure. Where do you think Steve Forbes would be without The Contender? The show got him exposure on national television as well as appearances on the undercards of two HBO PPV's.

Also, why do you think this season of the show has so much talent? Because the boxing managers and promoters know that the show sells and it's the fastest and easiest way to turn your fighter into a star.

Nigga read my post again before you try to put somebody in their place.

The Contender is retarded for anybody who wants to be anything in the sport of boxing.

What happens to these guys when they enter the ring with REAL contenders after the show is over??

They lose

Yeah The Contender gets dudes some exposure and some money, cool, but as far as the real boxing world is concerned... there is no reason a fighter with 25 fights should be fighting 5 round fights. It does NOTHING for his development as a boxer.

Yeah, it gives a fighter excellent exposure. But in 5 round fights, anything can happen. There's a huge risk involved. I mean look at what happened to Manfredo. Dude was the most hyped boxer, then got beat in 5 rounds.

All i'm saying is that sometimes it can give the public the wrong impression of a fighter if they only see them for 5 rounds.

But yeah, for the top guys, it gives them a great opportunity.

Don't be such a fucking baby. I was just stating my opinion and wasn't trying to put anyone in their place.

These guys are going to have to step up and face real competition sooner or later. Why not let them get national exposure so as to pave the way for a bigger paycheck later in their careers?

As far as the real boxing world is concerned, most of the contestants in the Contender are concerned only about money. Most are not as skilled, young, or marketable enough to be signed by Top Rank, GBP, Main Events, etc., so they can't afford the luxury of having a clever matchmaking team carefully choose his opponents.

I get what you're trying to say, but I think you overestimate the risk. Now that we look at their careers up to this point, it's not like Manfredo can be regarded as that much better than Gomez. Now if someone manages to upset Bika, Vera, Codrington, or Soliman in the first round or so, then I'm much more interested in what you're saying.

Yeah, thats why I said as far as boxing in concerned it does nothing for any of them tryna really do things.

I guess we got confused on that point.

For the dudes who need money and shit, its great for them. The show is great entertainment and shit like that.

But I kind of see it as progressive for dudes.

I bet if you asked casual fans they would thought Bravo was the favorite vs. Berto... then Berto demolished him.

I say for the contender, do it like right after the Olympics when all the top prospects are turning pro.

Have young top prospects with no more than like 4-5 fights under they belts, that way the show would be progressive for their careers as well as getting them some exposure at a young age.

You're right. In actuality, if I was in the position to be on the show, I think I would take the risk.
