Report: Marbury says he'll play in Italy when Knicks deal expires
ESPN.com news services

Stephon Marbury has travel plans when his contract with the New York Knicks runs out in two years.

Marbury told the New York Post that he plans to play in Italy, having visited the country in May with his wife, visiting Rome, Milan and Tuscany.

"I'm not just thinking of doing it, I'm going to do it," Marbury said, according to the Post. "My wife loved it there."

"It's like a [David] Beckham thing," he said, alluding to the English soccer star coming to America to play in Major League Soccer after years with top-flight European clubs Manchester United and Real Madrid.

"I would've played 13 years in the [NBA]," said Marbury, who writes a blog for the Post. "That's a lot. Most guys don't get to seven."

Marbury, a New York native, said he wouldn't want to play anywhere else, but isn't sure the Knicks would re-sign him at age 32 because of his knee tendinitis.
Wow. Wonder if he'll try to break the bank over there and re claim his status as the best PG ever.

And I can't believe he says "I don't know if the Knicks will resign me at age 32 because of my knee tendinitis". What world is he living in? It's the Knicks. They'll probably throw the 6 year 130 million dollar max at him when his contract is up.

lol.

I just read this too. Personally, I wouldn't care. Italy is dope though.

Another weird thing that just happened is Steve Francis rejoining the Rockets after getting traded from there for Tmac. He turned down deals from Miami, Clippers, and Dallas.

He should have played for Miami or Dallas, that would have been a good fit for him. But McGrady gets some more talent around him, if he doesn't get out of the first round this year (barren injury) I give up on him.

and Derek Fisher is back with the Lakers. A slight upgrade from Smush Parker. He's old.

During the Olympics, David Stern told us about how big basketball was becoming around the world. He was right. Now I want to make it even bigger for the United States.
For my 14th pro season, I want to go when I can still go hard and give the people what they want. I'm looking at how David Beckham is getting love for coming here. He's 32. I'll be 32 at the end of my Knicks' contract. Imagine if someone told him not to follow his heart to play soccer in the U.S.

I want to do the same thing for basketball and spread the Starbury Movement so people all around the world can benefit. I want to make things affordable for everybody

so does he want his ashes poured over rome now instead of MSG?

it's hilarious how he compares himself to beckham lol, he's like a freaking third tier point guard, he was never considered to be one of the best in the game ever in his career. and marbury's not noticing the "love", he's noticing the PAY beckham got....and if he expected to get paid like that, he's off his rocker.

How are you third tier when you average 20 ppg?

He's low 2nd if anything.

Point guards aren't determined by their scoring output, they are determined by their playmaking and ability to run a team.

Their are exceptions, for example when you play in certain types of offenses and/or you have a dominant post player like Shaq.

I'd have no problem saying guys like... Steve Nash/Jason Kidd are first tier...

Billups/Parker are second tier...

And Marbury/Francis are third tier... or worse.

True @ how PG are determined, but I'd still say.

Billups and Parker are both 1st tier.

Marbury is 2nd tier.

How can Final MVP's be 2nd tier if their the best person on the best team.

as the announcers said before tim parker won his finals mvp, ask anyone in the san antonio lockerroom who the mvp of the team was for the finals and they'd say "tim duncan"

it was a close call between them... a strong showing for one series doesn't make a player the best on the team.

and, a player can be the best on the best team and still be 2nd tier if the margin of them being "the best" is slim with the team having very solid balance all-around with well-established chemistry

Irrelevant.

one series?
He showed it all throughout the playoffs.

Yeah, but in this case that would make Duncan seem like a 2nd tier player, which is BULLSHIT. If Parker is 2nd tier and Duncan is 1st tier, Duncan should have won the finals MVP undoubtedly like he did in 2003 and 2005 when Parker was a second tier player.

Why doesn't Vince Carter's poor shooting performance in the playoffs and ill advised shot reflect J Kidd's playmaking and ability to run a team? Because he averages a triple double? because your basing your opinion on past season success?

A guy like Carter shouldn't be shooting fadeaway 3's he should be getting easy dishes at the basket with a top tier PG. (See Nash)

no, it's not irrelevant... tim duncan is clearly the glue. the centerpiece that makes all things around him possible.

"all throughout the playoffs"? parker showed "all throughout the playoffs" that he was the spurs' best player? go back and check the facts. tim duncan was most def the team's playoffs mvp.

and, no, tim duncan shouldn't have necessarily won finals mvp undoubtedly if he's 1st tier and parker's 2nd tier, because a team can present unique match-up problems. even though he was clearly the playoffs mvp for the team entering the finals, the cleveland cavaliers had better defense to throw him than they did for parker. so, parker skyrocketing for that one particular series doesn't nothing to say he was the best player.

vince carter's poor performance reflects on nobody but himself. he was off his game and 27.3% from downtown. he was the one not running the floor to make the most out of what jason kidd could give him and floating around the perimeter.

why bring up that, though? j-kidd still had 8.7 APG to 3.67 TOPG against the cavaliers while tony parker had 3.3 APG to 3.0 TOPG

that's horrid... he's a 2nd tier player on a good, all-around squad who erupted for a strong scoring series against a team more focused on locking down the paint

No argument there.

Yes, stats don't show the whole story. Parker outshined Duncan.

Sry, I was under the impression the the best player won the MVP award.

Same could be said about Stephon and his teammates.

Yeah but thats not how PG are determined.

They weren't more focused on locking down the paint, they just didn't have an answer for Parker.

no he didn't. a. duncan put up better numbers, and b. you said there's no argument about him being the glue and centerpiece. a + b = duncan is the spurs best player.

best player for one series, of which match-ups could help a lesser player shine more

it's a critical measuring stick for playmaking and dependability

wrong.

he's 2nd tier.

some kids crack me up..

parker is on my team and i still dont think hes a top tier PG.. i hope u guys realize that this was his first yr SHOWING UP in the playoffs even though hes been on the spurs for like 5 yrs..

i mean marbury fuckin owned this kid like several yrs back when marbury was still on the suns.. billups and kidd did the same thing in the finals.. umm who else.. oh yea devin harris lit him up when we lost to the fukin mavs two yrs ago.. im sure if u go back throughout the other PO games you'll see the same thing..

parker has grown alot as a player but thats b/c the team he plays on allowed him.. exchange him with other PGs and the shit would be a different story..

when he came into the league he had no jumper, something he learned 2 seasons ago, and hes still really hasnt improved on D.. ginobli, duncan , and bowen pretty much mask his defensive deficencies..

b4 people start giving parker all this credit i hope u know hes responsible for the spurs not having more titles.. his constant no shows during the POS caused us to lose to teams like the mavs and lakers..

i doubt marbury would have folded up like the frenchie those years..

marbury leaves nets, nets make the finals twice in a row

marbury leaves suns, suns are a title contender with steve nash

why would knick fans WANT him to stay? maybe it's not so much that steve nash is a great player all of a sudden but it's that he's replacing marbury. seems to be good luck.

and toker, wtf? yeah this is his first year he's showed up, which is why he's now a top tier PG. nobody's talking about the past. anyone who'd take marbury over parker in an expansion draft is....well that person doesn't exist.
