Who will fight mayweather first?
I'm not as avid a boxing follower as some people on this site are, so I may not be up to speed with all of his potential challengers, but who will fight mayweather first?

This isn't so much a question about who mayweather will fight, or who Mayweather wants to fight, because as he always says, he's the best in the world, so those who want to make fights with him will have to come to HIM if they want to make it happen. If that is the case ( and I believe it is the case, and for good reason) which of the big-name fighters, or the established up-and-coming fighters will put themselves in a position to make a "super-fight" with Floyd.

Everyone in the smaller weight classes is always calling Floyd out after they win fights. Hatton said he wouldn't mind fighting Floyd, obviously, Cotto is another one who could put himself in a position to fight Floyd, as he has a considerable buzz right now.

I'm sure there are others, so who is next in line to challenge PBF?

Floyd wanted to Fight Cotto and Hatton last year but they both said they weren't ready so Floyd said FUCK It!. He was willing to give them their shots but they didnt want it with him so in essence they dicked themselves. Now they will have to wait 1 or 2 more fights to eve think about fighting Floyd.

Who'se next in line you say? Well the person who will make Floyd's pockets even FATTER is next in line and that happens to be Sugar Shane Mosley.

Cotto and Hatton might have to wait until probably the summer of 08 to fight pretty Boy or even longer depending on how well Shane fights him. Not to mention the fact that De La Hoya is wanting a rematch.

Hatton and Cotto should've faught Mayweather when he reached out to him. Now they'll have to fight each other or wait in line behind De La Hoya and Sugar Shane Mosley.

That matchup makes some sense, although Shane is out of prime a little bit ( he's still good, but he's not at the level he once was) so I'm not sure how much beating Shane will do for Floyd's legacy. It's a speed on speed match up, and the last two speed guys that Floyd has been in with ( Zab and Spinks, if my memory serves me well) he handled pretty well. I guess the difference is that Shane has the veteran know-how to stay calm and not get rattled like Zab did. I think Floyd would win that fight pretty easily, although I could see Shane winning some early rounds... if the fight were to be made.

I don't want to see a Floyd vs Oscar rematch. The first fight was good in an average sort of way, it didn't blow me away and it didn't disappoint me, but I'm not sure that the combination of styles is compelling enough to warrant another fight between the two.

Cotto vs Mayweather is the fight I'd want to see out of the ones listed.

I don't think Hatton can hang with Floyd. Hatton has good hand speed, and throws good combinations sometimes, but I get the feeling that Floyd would figure him out after about the 3rd round, and dominate from then on.

Hatton and Cotto had their chances back in 2005 around the time Floyd fought Gatti. Hatton and Cotto's camp said they werent ready yet. Cotto talks died out real quick. Hatton was more known so the talks and rumors went on for a little while. Hattons camp asked for like $13 million to fight, so nothing ever happened. Now that Hatton saw Floyd make so much fighting Oscar, he wants a piece of the pie.

Oscar and Richard Shaeffer made it clear in a recent interview that they are not interested in a Floyd rematch. I think Oscar understand he cant beat Floyd, so Oscar wants to end his career with some wins. Look out for the possibility of Oscar vs. Cotto next May 5th. Maybe after that fight if it goes down you can think about Cotto vs. Floyd.


That leaves Shane Mosely, Floyd called him out for years but Shane never stepped up for the fight (prolly cuz his boss, Oscar, wanted to fight him first). Now that Oscar vs Floyd is one Shane is making it known that he wants to fight Floyd. Shane brings the most money to the table right now out of opponents listed. Floyd is playing the cat/mouse game right now cuz Shane never stepped up in the past, and now Floyd is top dog so Shane is gonna have to wait. I believe the fight will go down sometime this fall or this winter.


Hatton needs to move back to 147 if he wants to even think about making these big fights go down.

Cotto vs. Judah did 225,000 pay per view buys, so he isnt a big enough national draw just yet to talk numbers with Floyd. The fight sold real well in P. Rico and NY, but nowhere else. So right now hes a regional star. Gotta give him time to build his status up.

I feel you pimp. Oscar is still the biggest money drawer in the sport so thats why I could see that fight going down. The last fight went to a split decision so that is enough warrant for a second match. Floyd will be 30 soon so he's only going after the big money fights. He'll fight Shane for the money and the fame. A fight with Shane would bring in around 15 to 20 million for Floyd.

Yeah, from a money prespective Oscar vs. Floyd II makes tons of sense. Thats why Floyd is ready whenever for it.


Oscar just doesnt want it cuz he knows he cant win it, lol. The look on his face when he couldnt touch Floyd was hilarios. Dude looked mad frustrated while Floyd smiled at him.

I'd pay again if they fought again, but I dont think as many casual fans would. I'd guess it would still do crazy PPV numbers but not around 2.2 million buys again.

So Shane is the one who has the best chance of being "next up", in the eyes of most boxing fans? I'm cool with that.

I've never paid for a PPV in my life, and I don't think a Shane vs Floyd match up would make me change that. I don't make enough money to be blowing 40-50 bucks on a one-time sporting event, but I'll still be excited to see who wins, and then watch it the week following the fight. How do ya'll think a Shane vs. Floyd match up would go?

I would love to see Shane vs. Floyd, its a matchup of Speed and Skill vs. Speed and Skill.


I personally think they have too different kinds of speed though.


Shane is more of a hand speed/combonation guy where Floyd is more of a foot speed type of guy.


Floyd can throw the same type of combonations, but hes more defensive minded so he uses his foot speed to get in, get some shots off then get out before his opponent can react.


I like Floyd for the win.


Teen Prodigy, if you were to buy one PPV and it turned out being a good fight I gurantee youd start buying them more often when its a good fight.

To me, theres NOTHING like seeing a good fight live. The energy, atmosphere, the fact that you dont know what is going to happen.

Are you talking about buying a PPV on TV?

Why don't you just go to a pub to watch it? Not any of them Irish Theme bars or American sports bars, but a proper pub. You find one of them with a good Euro/South American population, you're just as good as at the fight.

The fuck is $40-50 once a month at the most to me?

I've purchased like two pay per views this year I believe (Floyd/Oscar and Cotto/Judah), might buy the Hopkins/Wright. Thats nothing to me.


I'd rather watch it on the couch, 60" in HD with some of my boys than go somewhere else and have to deal with other goons and possibly have to stand up.

I think I'm going to start a boxing petition for people not to buy the Hopkins/Wright PPV. On paper, I can't remember a matchup being any more boring than this.
