WH had lost basically his whole family tragically, in the span of 2 summers.
Z lost twin baby girls in the offseason.
I'm happy for the Cavs, and their fortune. I'm glad to see a team break through and thoroughly enjoy the moment. That's what sports is about.
And when Bill Russel told them 'You not only represent your city, you represent the whole Eastern Conference... make me proud' - I was touched, even while I cringed.
Those are the type of words spoken at the right moment that can reach into a mans soul and change him irrevocably.
This is when a hungry team with inspired passion can beat a veteran team that's supposed to win, a championship team.
But it's not yet time for the Cavs.
The Spurs are too good, too competitive, too in their prime, too polished, too prepared, too motivated, to get snakebit.
I think Cleveland makes the Spurs work harder than people previously predicted.
But the Spurs won't let the same play, the same scheme, the same matchup be exploited, over and over to beat them.
Detriot was overrated, Detriot with no stars, had lost its all for one demeanor. They fought amongst each other, they pointed fingers, they failed to realize that the only reason they beat the Lakers that year was because they were united.
Detriot's cracks showed, Lebron James poured water into them, Daniel Gibson turned it into ice and Detriot was split asunder.
But Detriot is no San Antonio, and Cleveland is an infant San Antonio.
Youth will not be served this year.
Spurs in 6.

Good post.
I was almost in tears seeing Z celebrating, it's true that's what sports are about. A lot of people would say the Cavs over-celebrated winning something less than an NBA championship and a weaker conference, but hey why not. They've never been here before. What's a Western conference trophy to the Spurs? Nothing at this point, they probably sell that thing on eBay these days.
But for this Cavs team, let them enjoy the moment. It's like when they celebrated advancing past the Wizards last year. Why not? The celebration for beating the Wizards THIS YEAR wasn't nearly as dramatic as last year, why? Because they had already "been there" by that point.
Seeing Z celebrating by hugging LeBron... I've watched him play since he was a rookie. Both of the foot surgeries, all the piss poor teams he was on... and he's the only guy still here. I think just behind KG and Kobe as longest tenure with one team and KG will likely end his streak this offseason. Who'd thought he'd make the finals when he was on a 17 win team (and I think he was an all star in that season). Then we have all the guys that came along for the ride-- Drew Gooden never could find a role with other teams but is loved here and said multiple times he wanted to stay here when he was an object of trade discussions for Chris Wilcox (who?). Now he's here and he's in the NBA finals. I didn't know this before but supposedly Daniel Gibson forced his hand in the draft by refusing to work out for other teams besides the Cavaliers, and look how much of an impact he's made. And so-on... it was a great thing to see.
And it's good when you go to a bar or an arena and everyone is there rooting for the same cause. You're slapping fives with people you don't know, never met before, talking basketball with them and discussing your favorite players and moments.
There's nothing like sports.
