Do any of you basketball players....

know of any informative basketball sites? Xz, I'm looking in your direction. I'm really getting into basketball but never played organized ball, so I'm not the most technically sound. I've been playing for 10+ years so I'm pretty good, but still need to work on things like my left footed footwork especially. I can shoot, pass, dribble and have very good defense, but feel I still don't have the proper foundation completely. I need a site that'll give me (preferrably) one man drills and insight on particulars like what angles to take when going for blocks, offensive movement, etc. as well as basic fundamentals.

Every site I go to is just trying to sell me some book.

im gonna speak in a lot of general terms n shit so if u already know some of the shit im sayin im not doin it to belittle u or nothin i just dont know what to base your knowledge off of.

in all honesty i never really went to a site or anything like that. all i did was play play play. if your trying to work on footwork, a great drill you can do is from the three point line, dribble to the left elbow of the foul line, plant your left foot first thing swing your right in to pull up for a jump shot. grab the board, sprint back out to the three dribbling the whole time. then dribble to the right elbow, and plant your right foot in first swingin your left in when u pull up fora shot.(those are the propre mechanics for pull up jump shots, planting inside foot first then swinging in outside foot to pull up) do that for 2 minutes going HARD. that will get your foot work up, as well as your pull up jump shot.

to improve shooting, this ones a gurantee. stand maybe two feet away from the basket. make the basket (it should be really easy when u start out) and keep going till you make it five ina row. once u make it five times in a row take a step back. if you miss you gotta start over(you can choose between starting over that set or going back to the begning) . your goal to start can be to make it to the foul line (i can get to about nba three.. but ive been playin competetively my whole life).

offensive movement is souly based off of what is known as the 'triple threat position.'

everything you do in basketball should be LOW. you want your knees bent, and the ball on your hip.. this picture looks more like he was gettin ready for a pass but you get the idea. its called triple threat, because from that position you can easily shoot pass or dribble. great dribbling drills can be done with two balls. just dribblin up and down back and forth. whenever im bored im just dribbling a ball.

blocking.. this ones a little more complicated. first the major factor is how tall you are, then how high you can jump. although that plays a big factor, you can still get 'cheap blocks' which will frustrate the hell out of the opponet. id say about 85 percent of my blocks from helpside defense. thats when someone elses man is breaking to the basket and u leave ur man to go block his shot. if you see someone in front of u going to shoot an easy block to get is comin behind then n takin the ball out their hands. be careful cause its easy to foul from that position.

if your going to meet someone thats going up.. just make sure u put ur body between them and the rim and ur hands straight up. dont swipe down because that is what refs look for to call a block.. and its really hard to do unless ur pretty good at blocking shots. but if u position urself between them and the basket and jump with ur hands straight up.. its going to definantly alter their shot atleast if not block it.

rebounding is based solely on desire. you dont hafto be the most athletic, talented, or nething of the sort to be a good rebounder. when u see the ball, u hafto just go get it. and want it more then neone else on the court. if your not to keen on boxing out ( http://www.ehow.com/how_8848_box-basketball.html) that should help.. pretty self explanitory and does worlds better if ur mans on ur back when trying to get the ball.

nething else, or more specfic areas ud like to know or good ass drills to work out to just lemme no

As far as footwork, I'm not very comfortable pivoting on my left foot. I'm starting to pick up things like body position for example knowing what moves to go to if my outside foot is outside my mans. How to use my body to protect the ball or to create space. But say on my left handed layups, I have trouble jumping off of my right foot. And my rythm and timing usually get thrown off, so I just use the same approach I do for a right handed one except for using the right hand. Iv'e been practicing sliding with my right foot foward cause I'm just not used to it. You see how I kind of have a grasp for advanced things, but without having all of my basics down?

Defensively, the blocking is what bugs me. I miss a lot of weakside block opportunities while the ball is flashed in front of my face. It might just be me being lazy. Otherwise, if you put the ball on the floor, I'm going to give you trouble unless you have great body positioning and control. And even still, if you make one bad move, I'm going to get in your chest and once that happens, your only shot is really to use a pick and get space all over again. If you pick up your dribble I won't block you, but you won't get off a good shot unless you can hit fadeaways. I'm usually good for 2-3 steals a game. I think I get decent steals because I don't go for blocks.

With rebounding I'm good. I can box out anybody. I'm really good at keeping in contact with my man and taking him out of the play. I'm only 5'9" so if the ball comes my way, I usually just try to tip it to a teamamate. I can also still go up and snatch it aggressively if I have to or if the situation calls for it. But usually I just tip it out.

About movement, I know about the triple threat posistion and two footed stops. I don't really ever get into the triple threat for long though cause I prefer to start with my back facing the basket. From there I usually try to spin off of my man and drive. If not I'll drop step, then throw a couble jab steps at him and try to cross him. If he overplays the jab steps, I just shoot it. If he doesn't react at all, I slash and if he hangs with me on both moves I still at least use a crossover or back him down to gain ground. I was wondering more about movement without the ball.

With shooting, I can hit about 50% wide open in a game. I know that's pretty good, but still not good enough for being wide open. I can go off the glass, runners, leaners, stop and pop, off the pick, and catch and shoot. It would be nice to be able to shoot lefty but nobodies perfect From the post, I can do up and unders, baby hooks and this little cheap one where I throw if up from under the defenders same arm with my back to the basket. I'd like to shoot fadeaways, but let's be honest. At 5'9" it's not really worth it to me.

if off of left hand lay ups your not comfterable.. just get good at jumpin off two feet. go with a hop stop every time, its a more powerful move.. a little slower, but ensures the bucket more then leaping off one foot neways. everytime i dunk i go off two feet.. thats cause i fucked up my ankle a bunch of times, i use to be able to sky off one foot.. but now all my bangs are off two so the hop step helps.

moving without the ball is simple. if your on weakside, and the balls cross court, lure ur defender farther out across the court. then slash to the lane, its usually open in pick ups. if not, just cut to the open side of the court. never stop moving. also setting a pick not only gets the person with the rock, or someone else open. its a GREAT way to get yourself open cause people always get confused when ur the one setting the pick. they worry so much about the person comin off the pick they forget about u.

the back to the basket technique used by people your height usually comes from a lack of handle, and that ur stronger then most guards that you play. but that really limits your game mayne. at 5'9 you should be droppin dimes and shit.. u cant see cutters when ur backs turned. if you get ur handle up, you can just cross kids while keepin a eye on the court. and if u get a mismatched, then u take their little asses down low and post them up. backin people down from the guard spot blinds u and keeps you real succeptable to getting plucked as well.

as far as blockin, if ur gettin the steals fuck it man.. not everyone needs to be sending shots. a steal is just the same if not better then a block

I'm all weird man. I jump best off my left foot even though my right is stronger. I can't really jump as good off of both. I can dribble fine, but like you said, I'm usually up against guards who I'm stronger than. I'm sayin when I post up it's from 8-10 feet out because I don't want to be faced up in all that traffic unless I'm driving. With blocks, I'm fine with the steals I get but I get pissed because when people (not my man) go up, the ball gets flashed in my face a lot. It makes me wonder, what if?

I like being a pest. I try to hustle my ass of every play. I like trying to keep the ball out of my mans hands as much as possible. I want him to be affraid to do anything but pass it when I'm on him. I'm good at shutting my guy down, but I don't really help too good. Offensively, I like passing the most. But every time I drive, the guys I play with don't understand the concept of giving me windows and angles to pass it They never try to get between their man and the ball and just settle for being boxed out. Then their man comes up to block me and they stay directly behind him

It's stupid.

if you thinkin what if, then go for that shit. i always play with the mindset that if their not on my team, their holding my ball. and im assumin your right handed? yeh i use to be able to jump off my left a lot better too, but then i fucked my ankle up REAL bad my sophmore season, and i had to teach myself how to jump off two.

if dudes arnt gettin the angles, try a fake pass before you shoot. or a pump fake and pull up. but you cant hate on your game cause the caliber of players your with our shitty. ill usually try and get peopled involved early.. if their garbage and i give them multiple chances n they fuck up i usually just ice them out.

maybe not for you, but for me i love bein faced up at ten feet. thats where im most deadly. cause i can get that quick step on you n go and flush it. i can get half a step on you.. then when u start runnin full speed to catch up i hit you with a pull up jumper while your still sprintin for a easy 7-8 footer. i can lure post defenders in to dish (even though u say they dont look for it or just hit the 10 footer from where im standin.

Actually id say 15 feets my best.. then apply all that ^^. but it might just be cause im taller n i can shoot over most players n shit.

you should def try gettin into a rec league though, the competetions usually better then what your describing and the best way you learn the game is playing with better players.
