ABC to televise Tarver's April 22 fight in A.C.
By DAVID WEINBERG Staff Writer,
Former light-heavyweight champion Antonio Tarver will fight again in Atlantic City next month.
According to the New Jersey Athletic Control Board, Tarver (24-4, 18 KOs) is scheduled to face Elvir Muriqi (33-3, 20 KOs), from New York, on April 22 at Boardwalk Hall's Adrian Phillips Ballroom.
ABC will televise the Sunday event live. It is believed to be the first boxing event held on the network since 2000.
It will mark Tarver's first fight since the 38-year-old dropped a 12-round, unanimous decision to former middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins in Boardwalk Hall's main arena on June 10. That bout was initially billed as Hopkins' farewell fight, but he has since made plans to fight Winky Wright in Las Vegas.
Tarver, who lives in Tampa, Fla., is training in Vero Beach under Buddy McGirt in hopes of regaining the form that made him the top 175-pounder in the world and carried him to a pair of wins over Roy Jones, Jr.
