Ballhandling, passing, shooting, defense and knowledge are all more important.
makes me wonder if YOU've ever played basketball.
90% of the game you're not in a sprint. Therefore you rarely use your speed, therefore it not being very important.
On fastbreaks you can show off.... but usually on fastbreaks anyone that can run a 4.8 forty is just as effective as a guy that can run a 4.4.
NFL it's more important and still overrated. Plenty of players have ran 4/3's coming out of college...and they can't do anything else right so it never helps them a bit.
Then you've got players that get blasted for running 4.6's and they end up being far better than the faster guys.

speed doesnt make you a mvp candiate however its a great tool. a slow back court gets your team into trouble. It hurts on both the offense and defensive sides of the ball.
however arenas's speed helps him more than almost anything else. his speed is what allows him to shred defenses. His speed allows him to create his own shot.
Noone said its the most important thing for a player but to say it doesnt matter that much is simply retarded. If he was slow he would not be able to do half the things he does its used in way more than 10 pct of his game.
