if kobe was being friendly then he must have been being s a r c a s t i c with "i never understood the mentality of just chucking it up there". and if thats the case then wtf? how could you ever argue the fact that he's a ballhogging bad shot-taker? ya can't.
point is, thanks to power of sportscenter, all we see is the magnificent shots that kobe makes. when if you watched a lakers game, you see kobe taking AWFUL shots on the regular. for every great shot he makes, he misses 5 of the same shot. WHEN he misses, they're terrible shots. it's like that for every VOLUME SHOOTER (iverson, kobe, arenas). it's just how it works. we overlook the bad shots in favor of the amazing ones.
