FANTASY ANALYSIS: What if KG and DUNCAN swapped places?

Would the Spurs still be title contenders? I say YES. i believe KG brings a lot of energy to the game, which inspires the rest of the team to work harder. (ya i know it hasnt worked in minnesota, but the spurs are way too deep and popovich makes sure to keep the players in check).

Would Minnesota be better with duncan, as opposed to KG? im not so sure. duncan makes me wana fall asleep when he plays.

Looking at production, you would think they are interchangeable.

But they go about getting their numbers in different ways.

Duncan dominates in the lowpost, and when the game is on the line the offense will run through him.

Garnett is more perimeter orientated, a utility guy with a motor that doesn't quit.. until about the fourth quarter. He usually dissapears and defers to teamates.

Duncan is the anchor for his team, he makes his teamates better. People come to SA and Duncan's presence gives them soil to grow.

Garnett, as was seen the only time he made it past they first round of the playoffs, is a glue guy who keeps the team there with all his work, but needs someone else to make the big shots, ala Sam Casell and Sprewell.

Also... Duncan's production goes up during the playoffs. He knows how to pace himself, and when its time to get hot. Just look at what he did last year, how his production jumped from the regular season to the playoffs.

Garnett, plays with the same ferocity througout the whole year. That's not a bad thing, but he averages basically the same stats he does during the regular season as he does in the playoffs.

And the final factor that should be looked at, is character/personality, and how that will affect team chemistry.

Duncan is cool and calm, some people say boring, but he keeps the team even keel. His teamates love playing with Teemy.

Garnett on the other hand, is so wound up, that his teamates don't seem comfortable. Garnett is a guy who has punched teamates in practice. Some players that type of intensity might help them, but for other players that type of schtick will grate on them fast and make them no enjoy playing with KG.

Final Anlysis - Duncan is the best PF of all time. Kg is a top 50 player.

Duncan, with his type of game and his on court demeanor makes him the better player to build around.

Garnett on the Spurs... would be a playoff team that exits in the first round. Manu would detest Garnett because of all his bravado and Parker would probably play like he's walking on eggshells.

Dominace vs Versatility - it's been that way from day one and it aint going to change.

I use to think KG was better..

however watching KGs team not even make the playoffs told me that duncan is better.

Duncan on the twolves they never miss the playoffs he makes everyone better and is the best big man of this generation.

I don't know. A lot of the points you raise against KG could easily be a result of the players around him. The could be a result of KG burning out from really being his teams only hope to even stay in the game.

Garnett has no option of pacing himself. It's either play hard and have a chance to win, or automatically lose. Duncan has more leeway. Even down to KG punching teamates can be explained, because winning is the cure all. Duncan has never really known losing. KG has never known winning.

I think they're more interchangable than you give credit. And a possibility that KG may even be better than Duncan. Duncan has always been surrounded by better players. And in teams sports, that's all the difference.

I'm wondering if this is inspired from that ESPN article, I think it was in ESPN Magazine. Anyway, they basically said KG plays in 5th gear all game but NEVER shifts into 6th and that is what will always hold him back from winning.

d rob was a great player in his day but when duncan came he was breaking down and was a strictly defense and rebounder.

hes wrong in that david robinson will be a HOF but not in the sense that D-rob was a shell of his former self once duncan got there

plus KG had a player better than spree and cassal in marbury.. course we all know what happened there

face it, if KG was as good as everybody tried to make him out to be he'd have more than 1 apperance past the 1st rd

could he be one day? sure he was voted one of the 50 greatest but that was b4 injuries turned him into the shell of himself that he was with duncan.

spree and cassell where better than that d rob. that year d rob avg 15 and 10 nice numbers but not hall of fame numbers.

spree avgd 16 ppg with minnesota that year and sam avg 20 and 8.

thats more help than duncan had.

Yeah, cause Lord knows NOBODY in the NBA right now would take a 15-10 guy right now. 15-10 would start on any team dumb ass. But wait, since Robinson was voted one of the 50 greatest OF ALL TIME, it must be a huge stretch to think he would be a hall of famer. It must be that rule you made in your head where only 49 people can be in the Hall of Fame.

BTW, Ginobli and Parker are better than any 2 teammates KG has EVER had.

I'm going to stop arguing half full Vs. half empty with you though. The facts are right there.
