the #1 ranked free agent this off season (according to espn.com) is prepared to sign

after a dinner with red sox exec's this week, and catching a lakers game, he has left his contract signing in the hands of agent boras, who has said that they have already started negotiations and a signing is eminent

red sox rotation next season:

schilling
d-mat
beckett
papalbon
clement or wakefield

i like our chances

ramirez

pedroia

ortiz

offense = B-

staff = A-

overall...... eh.... maybe... B+

the staff has potential to be great but Beckett has to stay healthy, Scchilling has to repeat last year, clement wasn't impressive last year, wakefield is aging, matz is hopefully not another Irabu, papelbon hopefully can make the transition smoothly

rotation has the potential to be an A but it also has the potential to be a C

I thought Crisp was on his way out?

umm u see the money there throwin at carlos lee and soriano...too HORRIBLE HORRIBLE DEFENSE PLAYERS

and this is a pitcher and the contract will be like 3-4 years to 30-45 million so ...thats only 90 million for a pitcher which isn't bad

hes a japanese pitcher whos never pitched in the Majors....and they spent 50 million just to negotiate with him.....i bet there are major league bench players who are better hitters than most of the japanese regulars....

and anyway....they are paying Soriano and Lee to hit..not for their defense...and their both proven all stars who put up close to mvp type numbers...at least in sorianos case....

MLB is alot different than some japanese bush league..

3-4 years for 90 million total? for someone unproven in MLB?

then again it's like bringing a hotshot NL pitcher to the AL and expecting the samething

like Carl Pavano or giving a player a huge contract based off one good year (Gary Mathews Jr)

teams will pay outrageous salaries for a potential front of the rotation pitcher. I'm waiting to see what Zito gets, it could be insane..

He did DOMINATE the WBC with a sub-2 ERA going 3-0 I believe.

the red sox are not required to pay the 51.1 million dollar bid to negotiate unless they actually sign him.

if he is not signed, the red sox have no financial obligations to his team and his goes back to the japanese league as a free agent.

by the way, your beloved mets had the second highest bid at 45.5 million.
