In one of your most recent articles, you mentioned that The Sandman spent the early part of his career wearing a wetsuit and carrying a surfboard. Was he the same guy who played "Surfer" Ray Odyssey in the old ICW promotion in the late '80s and early '90s?
It's amazing how often I'm asked this question. Counting you, I've now been asked........ um ......once. No, Ray Odyssey wrestled as Surfer Ray Odyssey and in fact feuded with The Sandman on the indy circuit.
If you had to pick two DVDs that best represent ECW, which would you select?
Reservoir Dogs and M*A*S*H
Tod,
Did the Sheik (The name "original Sheik" is never used by someone in Detroit, there was/is only one!!) ever appear in ECW as a wrestler or as a manager/advisor for Sabu? If he did, how was he to work with? As the master of the hard-core style he would/could have been great for the federation. Keep up the great work!!!!!
He was in ECW for one show at the arena. He was involved in a tag match that included Taz and Kevin Sullivan, and of course threw his patented fireball. We never used him with Sabu.
Tod,
To a question you answered, I believe on 9/6 about 911. I thought that 911 passed away a few years ago? Here's my question: As for Randy Orton a Legend Killer, Why didn't WWE get his father Cowboy Bob Orton in the angle this would have been a great angle and have his dad kick his a** and turn Randy as a face. This would've been a great angle.
911, real name Al Poling, is very much alive and residing on a farm in New Jersey. I understand your thinking, but regardless of how much his dad beats him, I'm not sure beating up your father is the best way to turn someone into a face.
Hi Tod,
Do I need to say that I'm a long time ECW fan (since Ultraclash), and that I enjoy your satire? No? Oh good. A question? How in-depth were your talks with Vader about entering ECW and any other Vader/ECW related gossip?
Kind regards,
Brian
Thanks Brian. We never really spoke to Vader. 2 Cold Scorpio is a very close friend of both Vader and myself, and offered to reach out for him on our behalf, but the problem with Vader was that he never knew his Japan schedule until the month before he left, thus making it impossible to create any kind of storyline for him. Certainly, we didn't want to bring him in for occasional shots because he would only have served a purpose if he was helping get our guys over by doing the job, and Japanese politics made that damn near impossible. The money he would have gotten us from the short term of using him, would be less than the guy he buried would make us in the long term.
