Goldberg takes shots at the WWE

Thanks to Jim Logan for the following:

Today I happened to have the radio on a Talk Radio station in Edmonton, Alberta (the site of Backlash) and I caught an interview with Bill Goldberg. This radio station is mainly for the older adult crowd. It does not have shock jocks or anything like that. It is the station that broadcasts Edmonton Oiler hockey games.

I was really surprised to hear Goldberg’s feelings toward the WWE. Read on for the scoop.

The announcers were talking about Goldberg and saying that he is currently in Edmonton filming the movie Santa’s Slay. The announcers did not really seem to know who he was. They referred to him as an ex-pro wrestler who was in the WWE before he retired. They said they thought he was at Wrestlemania XX, but they did not believe he wrestled there. [Ironically although he actually did participate in a match, I don’t think he wrestled either].

Thankfully they passed the interview on to someone else who conducted the phone interview with Goldberg. I took notes during the interview, so the text that follows is pretty accurate.

Goldberg said:

- Filming in Edmonton and area for Santa’s Slay ends Saturday. He said in the movie he plays the son of Satan who has been good for 1000 years, but decides it is time to create havoc and kill a bunch of people while wearing a Santa suit. He said it is like wrestling but it does not hurt as much.

- The announcer asked if it was his first movie (Bill’s ego took a hit here) and Bill said it was actually like his fifth film.

- Goldberg said he wants to do more acting since there are fewer tolls on the body. He said the pay is better for the difficulty of the work, and that he does not have to get beat up by 300-pound men.

- He said he liked Edmonton. The people are great, the hockey is great, but it is too cold.

- He was asked what his plans are from here. Goldberg said after he leaves Edmonton at the end of the week, he is going to Hawaii for a couple of TV projects, then he goes to LA to finish the last scene on Santa’s Slay.

The announcer asked what his long-term plans are. Goldberg said he would take some downtime, look into more movies (but did not want to reveal projects since it is a jinx). Then he would do charity work and wrestle a bit in Japan. He offhandedly mentioned that the WWE is very restricting on his life and that he wants to get back to doing things that his WWE schedule would not allow.

- He was asked if he would be at Backlash PPV in Edmonton. Goldberg said that he does not want to disappoint anyone in Edmonton, because they have been so great to him, but he would NOT be at Backlash. He clarified that his contract expired on March 14 and that he no longer works for the WWE. Then he said there are “not too many plans in re-signing”.

He followed by saying that he is “done with the soap opera called the WWE”. He said he is not out of pro wrestling altogether. He still has a contract in Japan. He said when that contract is up he will re-sign in Japan.

The announcer asked if he would re-sign with the WWE. Goldberg said “the WWE is SO ridiculous with the up-down swing. It is like being in a circus”. He said it was not an ideal situation working for Vince and the WWE and at this time in his life, he does not need to be around “all that stuff”.

Then Goldberg went on about how he loves Hockey and how he has seen great hockey in Edmonton. He was asked what his favorite team was, but he said that he knows so many players on all the teams that he does not have a favorite. He said he just loves to watch a good game. They thanked each other and said goodbye.

A very interesting interview. He was never pressured to answer any tough questions but he seemed eager to speak out on the WWE. I guess we will not see him in the WWE for a while.

i mos def agree, WWE storylines are wack..
i still think the split w/ the Smackdown & Raw is dumb..
cause there's less competition on Smackdown, i don't even
watch Smackdown anymore just because of that..
Vince needs to let Eric Bishoff bring more entertainment
in the WWE, i still say bring the NWO back with the WCW wrestlers..
now that would make WWE bigger..

they need to bring back degeneration x and at least let hogan retire with dignity. i mean, his last match he lost to the rock.

and kane is the worst character in wwe history. he has 3 moves and is boring as shit at all times.

They should consider bringing back the nwo to feud with some of the younger guys.. yeah.. i know the older wrestlers vs the new wrestlers has been done before.. but the nwo is still a great idea IF its done properly.. i dont even think they had a reason.. for being on the wwe back when they came back. then again.. i didnt really watch..

the nwo is about taking over wrestling.. having all the belts.. breaking the rules.. they have no limits.. they just dont care.. they made them into some fags i guess..

and i dont see why they wouldnt bring them back.. triple h's little click he gots now is basically the new nwo/dx.. why not bring back hogan,nash, and hall..

new storylines that could improve raw and smackdown in my opinion:

have triple h invade smackdown with evolution and take eddie gurrerros belt...
triple h would then have smackdown's belt and wrestle benoit for both belts, floating back and forth between smackdown and raw to instigate a more furious feud with benoit and eddie...benoit wins both belt from triple h in a cage match...
shawn michaels and eddie gurrerro have a no.1 contender match at backlash next ppv...this match ends in a tie with both men not able to stand up in a 10 count making no clear cut no.1 contender match..
next night at raw, vince mcmahon announces that since their is no clear cut no.1 contender, benoit will have to face michaels and eddie for the belts in two separate matches, michaels for raw's belt and eddie for smackdown...this sends benoit in a rage, the kicker is that since benoit is the champion of both shows, he can pick what type of matches they will have through the wheel of fate where each type of match is pinned on a wheel...he spins the wheel and it lands on submission match with shawn michaels and street fight/hardcore 24/7 rule with guerroro...triple h is outraged and demands a rematch for raw's belt on Raw, vince agrees...during the match, evolution runs down the ring and looks like they are going to help triple h win the title but they turn on triple h and beat him down...benoit retains the belt and evolution leaves triple h's carcass in the ring...

at the next ppv, triple h fights with another special guest partner against evolution, it turns out to be kevin nash and x-pac...they end up whipping evolutions ass around town...
benoit and michaels match goes on for 10 minutes till michaels hits a crippler crossface on benoit...benoit gets to the ropes eventually then hits the sweet chin music and does the sharpshooter to retain raw's belt..
later in the show, benoit faces off against gurrerro and they go at, fighting back and forth backstage and in the ring and ramp...their fight pours back into the main ring where gurrerro knocks benoit out with a ddt on eddie's car. benoit is lying motionless while eddie climbs the ropes and hits the frogsplash off the top of the ropes unto benoit who's still on eddie's lowrider...he goes for the pin is the new champ! as he is leaving to the back entrance, shawn michaels comes out of nowhere and superkicks eddie gurrero and pins him for the one, two and three, making him new champion of smackdown!

isn't it great!!!!!!!

what i don't understand is how come they made an undisputed wwe championship belt (first won by jericho) and in the same year split raw and smackdown.

i liked it better when the two shows were together.

yea storylines used to be great a few years ago, wtf happened.
Ever since the television execs told em' to tone it down because of the various depictions of "womanizing" such as Trish with her head in the mop bucket, and some nude scenes.........I mean c'mon, wtf is wron with these executive douchebags.
