WWE Summerslam Report

Summerslam opened with Lilian Garcia singing the national anthem, while a Marine Corps color guard presented the American flag.

The opening video aired, concentrating on the Elimination Chamber, Lesnar-Angle, RVD-Kane and Bischoff-McMahon aired. It was unusual, as it started out with beach shots from the Brock Lesnar Summerslam commercial, then went into a dark, eerie video on the Elimination Chamber.

The Dudley Boyz vs. La Resistance for the World Tag Team Championship opened the show. Bubba Ray Dudley carried the American flag to the ring. La Resistance, as usual, carried the French flag to the ring. The Dudleys attacked them in the aisle as they came to the ring. The brawl moved into the ring, and quickly settled into a traditional tag team match. D-Von worked over Dupree, choking him with his own robe and dropkicking him to the mat. Dupree moved D-Von to his corner and tagged in Grenier. D-Von hit him with a shoulderblock and legdrop and tagged in Bubba. He hung Grenier in the tree of woe and stood on his crotch. Bubba hit a back elbow and rammed him head first into the mat. Bubba avalanched both opponents in the corner, then he and D-Von cleared the ring. D-Von tossed Dupree back into the ring, but La Resistance got their first real advantage when Grenier hit Bubba from the apron and Dupree hit a back suplex. La Resistance hit a double shoulderblock. Grenier pounded on Bubba, then tagged Dupree back in. Dupree put Bubba in a bear hug. Bubba headbutted out, but was caught with a spinebuster. D-Von broke up the pin. Grenier tagged in, but was caught in a Bubba Bomb. Bubba rolled to D-von for the tag, as Dupree also tagged in. D-Von cleaned house on both opponents and flung Grenier from the ring. D-Von hit Dupree with a powerslam for two, and hit a flying forearm. Dupree accidentally was hit by Grenier, and D-Von rolled him up for two. La Resistance came back with a double chokeslam on D-Von, but he kicked out on two. The match broke down into a brawl with all four men in. Bubba hit the flip, flop and fly on Dupree. The Dudleys hit the What's Up headbutt on Grenier. Dupree was given 3-D, but Grenier pulled the referee from the ring. Bubba went after Grenier on the floor. A cameraman ran in the ring and nailed D-Von, allowing Dupree to get the pin. La Resistance retain the titles in eight minutes. Spike Dudley ran in, but was overcome by the triple team. The cameraman, who was wearing a wig and hat, was revealed to be Rob Conway (although he was not named), who helped La Resistance last week.

Jonathan Coachman interviewed the Dudleys in the aisle, saying La Resistance was "clever". Bubba gave them credit for doing whatever it takes to keep the championship, but he assured us that the Dudleys would also do whatever it takes to win the belts back.

Christian approached Eric Bischoff backstage, asking why he didn't have an Intercontinental title defense on the show. Bischoff blamed Steve Austin for it. Christian offered Bischoff help tonight, but he said he already had a backup plan in place. Christian asked Bischoff what really happened with Linda last week on Raw. Bischoff said he was going to tell the whole world later, in the ring.

The events leading to The Undertaker vs. A-Train was shown, as that match was next.

Undertaker had his ribs taped when he came to the ring. Sable accompanied A-Train to the ring. Undertaker ducked and moved at first. A-Train used a side headlock and blocked a hiptoss, but Taker hit a Russian legsweep for two. A-Train started pounding Undertaker, who came back with a DDT. A-Train went back after the ribs, but Undertaker hit a flying clothesline, but A-Train kicked away a backdrop. Taker charged, but A-Train pulled down the top rope and Taker fell to the floor. A-Train rammed Undertaker into the ringpost back first and worked over the ribs in the ring. Taker fought back with kicks, but A-Train hit a vertical suplex for two. Undertaker grabbed a sleeper, but A-Train countered with a back suplex. Taker hit snake eyes, missed a boot to the face, and the two men clotheslined each other down. Undertaker went to punches, and the two traded blows. Taker hit a big boot and a legdrop for a two count. Taker legdropped A-Train's head on the ring apron. Taker hit a pair of clotheslines in the corner, then went for the Last Ride, but Train shoved Taker into the referee. A-Train hit the Derailer, but the referee was slow to recover and Taker kicked out at two. A-Train ducked a clothesline, and Undertaker decked the referee. A-Train hit a jump kick, and seeing the referee down, grabbed a chair. Undertaker booted the chair into A-Train's face, and the referee crawled over for a two count. Undertaker went for a tombstone, but A-Train floated over. Undertaker ducked a clothesline and hit a chokeslam for the win in nine minutes. After the match, Taker went to give A-Train the Last Ride, but Sable stopped him. She rubbed Undertaker's chest, and Taker grabbed her by the throat. Stephanie McMahon came to the ring, while Undertaker held Sable by the throat. Stephanie came in, and Undertaker let her tackle Sable. Stephanie pounded on Sable until A-Train pulled her from the ring.

Chris Jericho was shown warming up in the back for the Elimination Chamber.

The events leading to Shane McMahon vs. Eric Bischoff were shown.

Eric Bischoff came to the ring. Bischoff said he first wanted to know why Vince McMahon would "run around the country eating hamburger" when he had filet minion at home. Bischoff said it is not about what he did with Linda, it is about how many times he did it to her. Bischoff said he now knew where Shane McMahon got his energy from, as Shane came to the ring to start their match.

McMahon attacked Bischoff immediately with rights and lefts. Bischoff went to the floor, but Shane went after him, slugging him in the back of the head repeatedly. Shane tossed Bischoff into the ringside barricade, then drove him backfirst into the ring apron. Shane elbowed Bischoff in the side of the head several times, and tossed him into the barricade again. Shane did his Ali impression, slugging Bischoff. Shane kept rolling into the ring to stop a countout, then went back to beating Bischoff at ringside. Shane rammed him into the Smackdown announce table. Jonathan Coachman then showed up at ringside and hit Shane twice with a steel chair. The referee called for the bell, but Bischoff stopped it. Bischoff said this was now a no DQ, falls count anywhere match. Bischoff ordered Coach to toss Shane into the ringsteps, which he did. Bischoff then covered Shane on the floor for a two count. Shane kicked out, and they tossed him back into the ring. Bischoff said Coach was the best announcer ever, and ordered Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler's mics to be shut off. Coachman then did commentary in the ring, while lifting Shane up so Bischoff could kick him over and over. Coach made fun of J.R.'s catchphrases. Shane finally fought back, kicking Bischoff and elbowing Coach. Shane hit Bischoff with a DDT, but Coach hit Shane with a low blow. Stone Cold Steve Austin came to the ring. Coachman said he didn't work for Steve Austin, he worked for Bischoff. Coach said he "didn't appreciate" him coming to the ring. Coachman said he couldn't be touched by Austin unless he was physically provoked by him. Shane shoved Coach from behind, into Austin. Since Austin was now "physically provoked" he proceeded to beat the crap out of Coach, with Shane McMahon joining in. Coach was given a double elbow and deposited on the floor. Austin ordered Ross and Lawler's mics back on, and told McMahon he would see him later. Shane picked Bischoff off the mat, and swung his arm into Austin, "slapping" him. Since Austin was provoked again, he gave Bischoff a stunner. Shane covered Bischoff, but picked him up at two. Shane then placed Bischoff on the Spanish announce table. Shane then delivered a top rope elbow onto Bischoff, putting him through the table. Shane covered Bischoff on the floor for the pin in eleven minutes. Steve Austin and Shane McMahon then celebrated with a couple of beers, as we saw that Bischoff was now a bloody mess on the floor.

A Wrestlemania Recall was shown, this one focusing on Shawn Michaels defeating Bret Hart for the WWF World Heavyweight Championship in 1996.

Kevin Nash was shown taping up his wrists for the Elimination Chamber.

Ric Flair was talking to Randy Orton, saying Triple H is to go into the Elimination Chamber match as champion, and leave as champion. Randy Orton started to ask "What if..." but Triple H and Ric Flair stressed to him that there was no "What if" tonight.

The four way match for the United States Championship between Eddie Guerrero, Chris Benoit, Yoshihiro Tajiri, and Rhyno was next. All four men would be in the ring at the same time. All three challengers came to the ring before Guerrero, and all three went after him when he tried to get into the ring. Benoit tossed Tajiri from the ring, and Rhyno attacked Benoit to officially start the match. Benoit went for a crossface on Rhyno, but Guerrero ran in to break it up. Tajiri kicked Rhyno, then went after Benoit, but Guerrero ran in to break up that cover. Eddie would slide out of the ring after every break up. Eddie broke up a Rhyno cover on Tajiri. This time, Benoit grabbed Guerrero, and all three challengers got punches in on him. Tajiri went for a cover on Guerrero, and Rhyno and Benoit broke it up. Rhyno powerslammed Guerrero for two, but Benoit broke it up. Benoit gave Rhyno a snap suplex for two. Tajiri went after Benoit, but Benoit gave him a back suplex. Guerrero broke up the cover, and cleared the ring, including suplexing Benoit over the top to the floor. Guerrero the focused on Tajiri. Tajiri hit a monkeyflip and a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for two, which Rhyno broke up. Rhyno went to suplex Tajiri, but Benoit hit him with a running knee. Rhyno rammed Benoit into a corner, then Guerrero covered Benoit, but Rhyno broke it up. Rhyno superplexed Guerrero, but Tajiri broke up the pin. Tajiri unloaded kicks on Rhyno for a two count. Tajiri hit Benoit with a handspring elbow for a two count, but Guerrero dumped him from the ring. Rhyno suplexed Guerrero for two, but Guerrero came back with a headscissors, sending Rhyno from the ring. Guerrero did a walking the ropes rana on Benoit for a two count. Rhyno chopped Guerrero, who rolled from the ring. Rhyno hit Benoit with a right hand, but Guerrero then shoved him from the ring. Guerrero went for a Lasso From El Paso on Tajiri, and Benoit got the crossface on Rhyno. Tajiri made the ropes, then Eddie dropkicked Benoit to break the crossface. Benoit then applied a crossface on Guerrero. Rhyno and Tajiri attacked Benoit to break the hold. Tajiri got caught in a Rhyno spinebuster for a two count. Benoit dropkicked Rhyno right in the face, sending him to the floor. Tajiri went for a springboard elbow, but ended up kicked Rhyno off the apron instead. Benoit hit two German suplexes on Tajiri, and backdropped Guerrero while still maintaining his grip on Guerrero. Tajiri then reversed into his own German on Benoit for a two count. Tajiri put Benoit in the Tarantula. Eddie Guerrero grabbed the title belt, and Rhyno went to gore him, but Rhyno ran headfirst into the belt. Guerrero went to the top rope, but Tajiri knocked him down to the floor. Tajiri climbed the ropes, but Benoit knocked him down into the tree of woe. Benoit then went to the top rope and hit a headbutt on Rhyno, but Tajiri got out of the tree of woe and broke up the pin. Benoit ducked a Tajiri kick and went for a powerbomb, but Tajiri turned it into a rana, taking both of them to the floor. Guerrero then hit a frog splash on Rhyno for the pin. Eddie Guerrero retains the United States Championship in eleven minutes.

Michael Cole and Tazz reviewed Brock Lesnar's beating of Zach Gowen, saying Zach had his leg broken in two places. Matt Hardy's "forfeit" victory over Zach from earlier tonight on Sunday Night Heat was shown.

The events leading to Kurt Angle vs. Brock Lesnar for the WWE Championship were shown, as that match was next.

The referee actually gave instructions to the wrestlers before the match and asked them to shake hands. They didn't. They locked up, and Brock muscled Kurt into the corner, then broke clean. Kurt took down Brock with a waistlock into a front facelock. Brock reversed into a hammerlock, but Kurt went behind him, tripped Brock and grabbed a side headlock. Brock broke free, and both men got back to their feet. Collar and elbow, then Brock went into a waistlock, but Angle hit a drop toe hold, and grabbed a side headlock. Brock got up in it, but Angle hit a side mare. Brock grabbed a headscissors to escape, and the two got back to their feet. They locked up twice, and Brock tossed Angle to the mat both times. Angle got behind Brock and shoved him, angering Brock. Brock charged and Angle hit a trio of armdrags. A frustrated Brock rolled to the floor and smashed a TV monitor before kicking the ringsteps. Brock tossed a piece of the steps on the floor. Brock picked up the title belt, saying it was his, and started leaving with it. Angle went after Brock, hitting him from behind. They brawled in the aisle, with Brock taking over and whipping Angle into the ring apron. Angle started kicking Brock's leg and whipped him into the security barrier. Back in the ring, Angle sidestepped a charge and hit an overhead belly to belly suplex on Lesnar for a two count. Kurt stomped Brock in the corner, but Brock reversed a whip and press slammed Angle over the top rope to the floor. Brock went out after him, stomping Angle and whipping him into the ringsteps. Brock stood on Angle's throat, and tossed him into the ring. Brock hit a released overhead belly to belly suplex for a pair of two counts. Brock kicked Angle in the midsection, then went for another press slam. Angle floated over and got a roll up for a two count, but then Brock hit a tilt-a-whirl backbreaker for a two count. Brock grabbed a rear naked choke (rear chinlock), with one leg grapevined. Lesnar grabbed a bodyscissors and rolled Angle to the mat for a two count. Angle fought up with punches, but Lesnar hit a knee to the midsection. Lesnar hit a backbreaker, then stomped him in the corner before choking him with his boot. Angle came back with punches and a cradle for two, but Brock downed him with a lariat. Brock then hit a delayed cradle suplex for a two count. Brock worked over Angle with shoulderblocks in the corner. Angle battled back with punches, but Brock shoved him to the mat. Brock was grabbing his nose. Angle was bleeding from the lip. Brock rammed Angle in the corner and went back to using shoulderblocks. Brock charged in with another one, then whipped Angle across the ring. Brock then missed a shoulderblock, hitting the steel ringpost with his left shoulder. Kurt shoulderblocked the hurt shoulder twice, then dropkicked Lesnar's leg out from under him. Angle punched the shoulder. Brock whipped Angle, but Angle came back with a flying shoulderblock. Angle hit three consecutive German suplexes for a two count. Brock blocked a whip and hit an overhead belly to belly suplex. Angle came back with an Angle Slam attempt, but Brock shoved him into the ropes and hit a spinebuster for two. Brock went for the F5, buy Angle got out of it on the way down, which looked awkward. Angle went to whip Brock into the ropes, but Brock reversed, grabbed the F5, but Angle turned it into a DDT on the way down for a two count. Angle pulled the straps down, and hit the Angle Slam for a two count. Angle put the straps up, then back down, and grabbed the ankle lock. Brock grabbed the ropes, but Angle pulled him back into the ring. Brock rolled out of the move, sending Angle into the referee. Angle charged Lesnar, applying a leg vice on the head and shoulder of Brock while on his back upside down, using a waistlock to ride on Brock's back. I don't think I have ever seen that move. Brock slowly went down on his knees, and Angle then floated into the ankle lock. Brock kept getting to the ropes, but Angle kept pulling him back into the center. Brock started tapping, but the referee was still out. Vince McMahon ran in and hit Angle with a steel chair. Brock hit Kurt with the F5, but Angle kicked out at two as the referee recovered. Brock was limping from the ankle lock. Brock went for another F5, but Angle broke out, small packaged Brock, and turned it into an ankle lock. Brock struggled in the hold, with Angle pulling him back into the center of the ring several times. Vince McMahon implored Lesnar to roll out, but he couldn't. Brock Lesnar tapped out at the twenty-one minute mark. Kurt Angle retains the WWE Championship. Bischoff started to say he didn't expect to see her tonight. Linda slapped Bischoff in the bag of ice he was holding to the side of his face. Bischoff sat there, dumbfounded.

Goldberg started pounding Triple H. Triple H stumbled out of the chamber, bleeding, and Goldberg repeatedly rammed him headfirst into the cage. Goldberg rubbed his face into the steel. Triple H hit a knee to the gut and got some offense, but Goldberg hit a short arm clothesline. They made it into the ring. Ric Flair slid a sledgehammer into the ring, and Triple H rolled onto it. Goldberg went for a spear as Triple H got up and turned around. Triple H sidestepped the spear and hit Goldberg in the head with the hammer. Triple H then got the pin at the twenty minute mark to retain the World Heavyweight Title.

After the match, Triple H hit two more shots to the head of Goldberg with the hammer, as Randy Orton and Ric Flair got into the cage to help with the assault. Goldberg was busted open, as they handcuffed Goldberg to the cage. Triple H hit Goldberg in the head with the sledgehammer. Triple H held the world title belt in Goldberg's face, saying he will never get it. Evolution then celebrated in the ring, as Goldberg was handcuffed to the wall of the cage, a bloody mess.

The PPV sucked, but 2 good things did happen:
1. We got to see Shane, an even though he's not a pro wrestler, he can still put on a pretty good show
2. The Coach attacking Shane and joining Bischoff part is actually good, it's the best thing the WWE writers have done in a long time... but the sad thing is that it had nothing to do with wrestlers
