CHRIS BENOIT VS. EDDY GUERRERO; KNOBLE VS. GUNN

Welcome to the 1Wrestling.com coverage of the first-ever Smackdown brand PPV, WWE Vengeance PPV live from Denver, CO. During a special Smackdown edition of Sunday Night Heat prior to the PPV broadcast, Ultimo Dragon defeated Kanyon. We'll have a detailed Heat report up later in the evening.
They open the show with a video centering around athletics and the dreams of the performers making way to a series of clips voiced over by Vince McMahon about Stephanie McMahon and Zach Gowen. Then, it's time for ten billion pyro explosions and we are live in the Mile High City.

The first match tonight is the finals for the WWE United States Heavyweight championship as Eddy Guerrero faces Chris Benoit.

The ref Mike Cioda runs down the rules of the bout. They do a lot of counter wrestling and technical exchanges in the early minutes of the bout. They work each other over with headlock reversals. Benoit goes for a tombstone but it's reversed by Guerrero and Benoit does the same when Eddy goes for one. Benoit hits a shoulderbreaker and goes for the Crippler Crossface. Eddy escapes to the floor, where Benoit dives atop of him. Benoit works over Eddy until Guerrero hits a back elbow. Eddie scores with a headscissors out of the corner for a near fall. There are some camera miscues for a moment as it appeared there were technical problems. Benoit and Guerrero exchange chops. They battle to the top, where Benoit hits a German Suplex off the top rope. The referee countsboth men out but Benoit covers Guerrero for a near fall. Benoit goes for two more German suplexes and then the Crossface. Eddy gets to the ropes.

Guerrero hits a trifecta of suplexes, culminating with a superplex. Eddy misses a frogsplash but Benoit scores with a powerbomb. Benoit goes for the Crossface. Guerrero makes it to the ropes and Benoit argues with the referee when told to break the hold. Guerrero shoves Benoit into the referee. With the ref down, Eddy nails Benoit with the U.S. championship belt. Guerrero hits the frog splash buy Benoit kicks up. Eddy grabs the belt and hits the ref with it from behind with the belt and tosses it on Benoit. Eddy lays like he's out, waiting for the ref to DQ Benoit but the referee is out cold. He shakes the referee but Benoit grabs him for the Crossface. Guerrero taps but there is no referee to see it. Benoit goes to the top for his headbutt, but the referee sees the belt as he is recovering and ends up in Benoit's flight path. Rhyno comes to the ring and gores Benoit. Didn't they drop that dissension angle weeks ago?? Guerrero looks surprised but his the frog splash on Benoit for the pin.

Your winner and the new (first?) WWE United States Heavyweight champion, Eddy Guerrero!

The second match is Billy Gunn vs. Jamie Knoble with Torrie Wilson sleeping with Knoble at stake.

Knoble is first out, with a briefcase of objects apparently meant for his night with Torrie Wilson. Gunn attacks him at the ramp and they brawl to the ring. Knoble begins working over his knee with a leglace. Gunn powers out and hits a suplex, but misses with the Famouser. Knoble hits a DDT from the top rope. Knoble goes for the pin, but Nidia puts Gunn's foot on the ropes, with the storyline that she doesn't want her man Knoble to sleep with Torrie.

Knoble goes outside to question Nidia. Torrie tried to slap Knoble but instead gets kissed by him. Knoble and Gunn exchange strikes in the ring but Knoble scores the pin with a rollup and a fist full of tights. Knoble celebrates as Torrie looks stunned. Nidia walks out on Knoble. Gunn tries to console Wilson. This week on Smackdown, Torrie Wilson must "sleep" with Knoble.

The APA offer an invitation to the Bar Room Brawl to Funaki. Perhaps he'll follow up that winning streak from the recent tour of Japan? OK, maybe not.

APA BAR ROOM BRAWL INVITATIONAL

The second bout was the APA Invitational Brawl where the winner will be the last man standing to take a drink. They had a "bar room" set up near the entrance way. They introduced the competitors, The Easter Bunny, Doink the Clown, The Brooklyn Brawler, Brother Love, Sean O' Haire, Matt Hardy with Shannon Moore, The Basham Brothers, Spanky, The Conquistadores, The Easter Bunny (?), and all three members of the FBI.

Bradshaw explained that there are no rules and the last man drinking wins. Bradshaw said they are going to test everyone's toughness and their liver. He gave a toast and the fight was on after everyone took a drink. Brother Love stopped the brawl before it could get started, asking everyone to bow their heads, close their eyes and let him give a benediction. He told the APA that when the APA were young, they made two fine altar boys, but they have blown it. Love said that everyone was there to love their fellow man and to turn "beer into blood" and asked for forgiveness for "this" and hit someone with a bar stool.

It was chaotic from the start with the Easter Bunny being beat down. The Brawler used a fire extinguisher on everyone and went after Doink the Clown. Chuck Palumbo broke the bar room saloon swinging doors over someone's back. Doink was tossed threw the window by the Brawler. Bradshaw beat on Kanyon. Funaki sat at the bar drinking through all this. Sean O'Haire broke a pool cur over Bradshaw's head. Brother Love cowered throughout the fight and then sent Shannon Moore into a mirrored window. Nunzio soon followed. Bradshaw threw the Bunny off the bar through the wall. Brawler missed Bradshaw with a stool, which bounced off the bar and into the air. Matt Hardy climbed atop the bar and guzzled a few beers and then attacked Maven. Bradshaw finally hit Funaki with a bar stool. Brother Love tried to make peace with the APA but was taken out. The referee declared Bradshaw the winner because he was the last man standing, although Farooq was right next to him but had been "knocked out" previously. Way too chaotic for any cameras to follow.

HAAS & BENJAMIN VS. KIDMAN & MISTERIO

Next up was WWE Tag Team champions Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas taking on WWE Cruiserweight champion Rey Misterio, Jr. and Billy Kidman. Rey and Kidman came out to separate theme music and entrances. "The World's Greatest Tag Team" came out as Michael Cole and Tazz discussed what an incredible year they have had. Tazz went over their amateur credentials.

Rey and Benjamin opened the match. Cole brought up that Kidman and Rey were Tag Team champions in WCW as members of the Filthy Animals. After some feeling out, Rey went for a Mexican armdrag but Benjamin was able to avoid it. Rey went for a crucifix and turned into head scissors. He tagged in Kidman, who hit a dropkick and hit a spinning leg scissors of his own. Benjamin took Kidman down and tagged in Charlie Haas, who got a two count. Kidman shoved Haas into the ropes but he shoulderblocked him down. Kidman worked over Kidman, choking him over the ropes, but got hung up when Kidman moved, leaving Haas to jump and hit the ropes. With Haas on the ropes, Rey tagged in and hit a springboard into a dropkick on Haas. Haas powered out Rey and sent him careening into the turnbuckles. Haas picked up Rey for a modified powerslam but Rey kicked out at two. Haas tagged in Benjamin who scored a two count and locked on a rear chinlock on Rey. Shelton tried to powerbomb Rey, but he rolled through with Bejamin and came up with a dropkick. Haas and Kidman tagged in and Kidman scored with a pair of dropkicks and a backdrop on Haas. He hit the BK Bomb for a two count.

Haas and Benjamin set up Kidman for their double team leapfrog, but Rey took out Benjamin. Kidman set up Haas and hit the 619. Rey hit a senton to the floor on Benjamin. Haas dove out on Rey. Kidman hit a springboard shooting star press from the middle of the top rope to the floor on Rey and the former Team Angle. The crowd chanted, "Holy sh-t." Kidman covered Haas but Haas kicked up at the last second. Haas backdropped Kidman over the ropes but he landed on the apron. Benjamin shot him into the ringpost and Kidman crashed to the floor. Haas and Benjamin worked over Kidman for several two counts. Benjamin tied up Kidman in a variation of a crossface and then turned it into a modified bow and arrow. Benjamin scored another two count. Haas tagged in and laid in a series of kicks on Kidman. They noted Mike Ciota suffered an arm injury during the first match but was still referring this bout. Kidman hit several elbows and used his leverage to toss Haas out of the ring. Kidman crawled to make a tag, but the referee was distracted by Benjamin, so he never saw the tag and forced Kidman to return. They hit a double suplex on Kidman. Kidman tried to escape the ring but Haas prevented him. Benjamin powerbombed Kidman and stomped his chest for good measure.

Kidman countered another powerbomb with an implant and tagged in Rey. Rey springboarded in and hit an enziguiri on Benjamin. He hit a springboard into a sunset flip for the a two count, then springboarded into a modified DDT for another near fall. Haas tagged in and slammed Rey. Kidman got on the apron, but was shoved off by Haas. Rey took out Haas and hit the 619. Rey rolled him up for the pin but Benjamin hit a kick to the head, breaking up the pin. Benjamin and Kidman brawled to the floor. Haas went for the cover but Rey kicked up.

Kidman shot Rey into the air where he hit a hurrancanrana off the top on Haas. Haas kicked up at the last moment, and the place went nuts thinking there was a pinfall. The crowd chanted, "Bullsh-t." Haas whipped Rey into the corner, where he knocked into Benjamin. Haas caught Rey on his shoulders, and set him for Benjamin coming off the top with a dive, hitting Rey as Haas slammed him down. The World's Greatest Tag Team scored the pinfall on Rey.

STEPHANIE MCMAHON VS. SABLE

They aired a Summerslam promo where Brock Lesnar hit the F-5 on a shark on a beach. Funny.

Michael Cole and Tazz previewed the next match, Sable vs. Stephanie McMahon and showed the brawl at the limo from last week's Smackdown. Tazz called the fans his "Tazmaniacs" which old school ECW fans will remember as his original ring name.

Stephanie McMahon came to the ring first looking determined while Sable did her grind and came to the ring prancing and grinding. Stephanie hit the floor and chased her up the aisle, dragging her back to the ring by her hair. She tossed Sable into the ring and the referee rang the bell. Sable jumped into the crowd to escape and Stephanie went after her and tossed her back into the ringside area. Stephanie hit a clothesline on Sable.

Sable threw Stephanie in the turnbuckles and unloaded with several kicks to the midsection. Sable slammed her to the mat for a two count. She pulled up Stephanie who tried to fight back but was kicked in the gut. Sable did the grind over Stephanie who was on the mat. Sable argued with the referee and Stephanie rolled her up for a near fall. Sable strangled Stephanie in the corner, and whipped her into the corner. Stephanie came out with an elbow into the charging Sable. Stephanie scored a near fall and flung Sable out of the corner by her hair for another near fall.

Sable rolled out of the ring and Stephanie slammed her head into the apron. Stephanie went for a chair but it was taken away by the referee. Sable tried to attack her by behind but Stephanie hit her with a right. Stephanie slapped Sable and began beating Sable with fists for a near fall. Stephanie rakes Sable's face into the mat and hit a neck snap.

Stephanie continued unloading with fists on Sable in the corner and choking her in the corner. Stephanie began tearing Sable's top off. Sable tried to leave up the aisle but Stephanie dragged her back into the ring. Referee Brian Hebner tried to help Sable but was shoved off by Stephanie. He pushed her off and gave Sable his referee's shirt to cover up.

As that happened, A Train hit the ring and laid out Stephanie with a charge. Sable scored the pin as Tazz and Cole wondered why Train attacked Stephanie. They played up that Sable was shocked Train hit the ring as well. Stephanie told the referees her ribs were hurt as they helped her out of the ring and walked to the back.

They ran down future live Smackdown events and then announced Wrestlemania tickets would go on sale in late September.

UNDERTAKER VS. JOHN CENA

They aired a John Cena-Undertaker video previewing the next match.

John Cena made his way to the ring and then delivered an anti-Undertaker rap. Undertaker came to the ring. They started out with Undertaker pushing Cena into the corner. Cena slapped him and unloaded with punches. UT shrugged them off and UT hit a series of rights and lefts, finally knocking Cena down with a strong hit. Cena fell through the ropes and UT followed him to the floor.

Taker shoved Cena into the ringside barrier and then into the timekeeper's table. Cena drank from a water bottle and spit it in UT's face but it only fazed him for a moment. Taker picked up and rammed him back first into the ringpost. Cena tried to battle back but UT controlled him with strikes and headbutts on the floor.

Undertaker laid Cena out on the apron and legdropped him. He taunted Cena, who was hanging off the apron as he continued to assault him. UT continued to work him over. UT locked him in a keylock, but Cena got into the ropes. Tazz noted that UT knows a lot of Mixed Martial Arts fighters. Taker sent Cena back to the floor but tossed him back in the ring.

UT called for "Old School" and walked the ropes before coming down with a shot on Cena's shoulder. Taker chokeslammed Cena. He went for the pin but pulled Cena up at the two count. He signaled for The Last Ride. He lifted him up but Cena landed on his feet and scored with a DDT.

Cena tried to recover while UT was out from the DDT. He began taking one of the top turnbuckles off from the corner and began stomping away at UT. UT blocked a right hand and hit one of his own. UT charged and clotheslined Cena into the corner. He tried for another charge but Cena moved, taking the turnbuckle he had loosened with him, and Taker hit the steel shoulder first, hurting himself.

Cena began hitting strikes on the Undertaker and shoulderblocked him off the apron into the ringside barrier. Cena followed him to the floor and began beating him. Cena began measuring UT for strikes. They noted on commentary that UT was hurt internally and was bleeding from the mouth. Taker fought back but Cena drove him into the corner with shoulderblocks.

Taker hit a clothesline on Cena but was only able to get a two count. Cena continued to work over the ribs but UT cinched in a Dragon Sleeper. Cena was able to make the ropes immediately so UT was forced to release it. Cena hit a spinebuster for a two count, but UT kicked out.

Cole and Taker traded punches. UT began making a comeback with a series of hits and a clothesline, but was too hurt to make the cover initially. When he finally covered Cena, he only got a two count. Taker went from the tombstone but Cena got out of it and went for the F-U. UT got out of it and hit Cena with a legdrop for a two count.

Cena hit UT with his chain in the ribs. Cena began trash talking for UT to get to his feet. Cena hit a very deliberate F-U but UT kicked up at two. Taker came back for the Last Ride to make the pin.

Next is Vince McMahon vs. Zach Gowen.

ZACH GOWEN VS. MR. MCMAHON

They aired a long Zach Gowen-Vince McMahon feud video.

Vince McMahon made his way to the ring first. Zach followed wearing his prosthesis. They faced off in the center off the ring. Zach took off the prosthesis and handed it to the referee. They locked up and Vince forced him back into the corner as Michael Cole and Tazz discussed the size and power difference between the two.

McMahon took Gowen down and hit a hiptoss, then a bodyslam. Vince yelled, "I'm going to enjoy the hell out of this, kid." Gowen tried to roll up McMahon but Vince hit a clothesline. Vince worked over Gowen in the corner. Gowen hit several elbows. McMahon charged him and was backdropped over ropes to the floor. Gowen hit an Asai Moonsault off the ropes to the floor on McMahon.

Gowen climbed the ropes and hit a legdrop off the second rope on the back of McMahon's head for a two count. Vince grabbed Zach's ankle and tied it up. Zach tried to slug out of it but was unable. Vince turned him over on his belly and began driving his knee into the back of Zach's lone knee. Vince picked him and drilled him knee-first into the mat several times.

Zach stood up but Vince kicked his leg out from under him. Zach continued to fight his way to a standing position, only to be kicked down again. Vince continued to toy with him, finally turning him into a one-legged Boston Crab. Cole said that Gowen should just tap out while Tazz said that Gowen doesn't give up and that the referee wouldn't stop the match because then Vince would fire him. Gowen finally made it to the ropes.

Zach, while on his back, began striking with kicks to McMahon's legs. McMahon began limping slightly. Gowen propelled himself out of the corner with dropkick on McMahon and then hit a second. Gowen dragged Vince to the corner and the pulled McMahon into the corner, crotching him. Tazz said he squashed the grapefruits.

Zach slammed the inside of Vince's knee into the ringpost. Zach continued to beat on McMahon's leg, nearly being counted out in the process. Zach hit a bulldog on Vince and then hit a missle dropkick off the ropes on Vince. Gowen hit a moonsault from the top rope but McMahon got his foot on the rope at the two count.

Vince grabbed a steel chair at ringside. Referee Brian Hebner tried stop him but was shoved out of the ring. Gowen used the chair to bust open McMahon and then hit him again. Gowen went to the top with a twisting moonsault, but missed. McMahon made the cover and got the three count. Vince walked out bleeding. The live crowd gave Gowen a standing ovation when he stood up and then another when he left the ring. A nice moment. They played Gowen's music as he left.

The winner, Mr. McMahon.

BROCK LESNAR VS. BIG SHOW VS. KURT ANGLE

Backstage, Josh Matthews asked Eddy Guerrero if he thinks his United States Heavyweight championship victory was tainted by Rhyno's interference. Guerrero said a victory is a victory and he doesn't need any friends, all he needs is his championship on his shoulder. He walked out of the building.

They aired the video buildup to the WWE championship match with WWE champion Brock Lesnar vs. Kurt Angle vs. The Big Show. They announced the first man to capture a pin or submission would win the WWE championship and the bout would have no disqualification. Big Show came to the ring first, followed by Kurt Angle, and finally WWE champion Brock Lesnar.

All three men faced off at the belt. Angle and Lesnar attacked Show but he tossed Angle out of the ring and chokeslammed Lesnar. Angle breaks up the pinfall. Lesnar rolled out of the ring. Show chopped Angle in the corner. Angle went for a German Suplex but Show broke it and nailed him. Show hit a headbutt on Angle. Angle used some amateur techniques to roll Big Show into the ankle lock but Show got out of it. Show dropped a leg on Angle for a two count, when Lesnar broke up the pinfall. Lesnar hit several shoulderblocks in the corner on Show. Lesnar hit an elbow off the middle rope on Show.

Show drives Lesnar down with an inverted DDT but only gets a two count. Angle brings in a pair of garbage can lids and he and Lesnar take turns nailing Show with them. They tried to both suplex Show but he reversed and suplexed both.

Show went for a chokeslam on both, but both countered and hit a stereo chokeslam on Show. Angle went for the pin but Lesnar pulled him off. They went at it and Lesnar hit the F-5 on Kurt Angle. Angle rolled under the ropes. Lesnar grabbed Show and pulled him up for the F-5 and hit it. Lesnar made the cover but Angle pulled the referee out of the ring. Lesnar leaves the ring and attacks Angle on the floor, whipping him into the stairs. Lesnar throws him into the ringpost, busting him open.

Lesnar returns to the ring and begins hitting Show with clotheslines, but Show clotheslines him down. Show backed Lesnar into the corner and began chopping him. He placed Lesnar on the top turnbuckle and began climbing for a superlex. Lesnar caught Show and hit a running powerbomb on the Big Show. The crowd chanted, "Holy sh-t."

Lesnar made the cover but Angle hit him in the back with a chair to break it up. He hit Brock in the head with the chair (busting Brock open) and made a cover himself on the Big Show, who kicked up. Angle went after Show with the chair but was taken out. Show began tearing the Spanish announce table apart. He grabbed Angle for the chokeslam, but Angle got out and hit the Angle Slam onto the announcing table.

With Show out, Angle and Lesnar both made their way back into the ring and stared each other down. Angle and Brock trade punched with Angle getting the better of the exchange. Lesnar hit a series of strikes to battle back. Brock went for the F-5 but Angle held onto the ropes. Angle and Lesnar went to the floor where Angle whipped Lesnar into the stairs, and slammed his head into the stairs.

Both men made their way back into the ring. Angle hit a inside out reverse German suplex for a two count. Angle went for the Angle Slam but Brock sent him into the ropes and caught him with a spinebuster for a two count. Lesnar tied up Angle on the mat and locked him into a rear choke similar to Samoa Joe's. The referee raised and dropped Angle's arm twice but before he could drop it a third time, Big Show kicked Lesnar.

Show tried to cover both men but only got a two count. Show chokeslammed both men and got two counts on each. Angle laid into Brock with a series of rights. Lesnar charged Angle who moved. Lesnar hit the post and Angle locked on the ankle lock and pulled him into the ring. Show interfered and Angle hit the Angle Slam again on him. He hit the Angle Slam on Lesnar and scored the pin. We went off the air with Angle celebrating as he returned up the aisle, saying, "I did it again!"

Your winner and new WWE champion, Kurt Angle.

Cept the bar room brawl (was kinda funny tho)

and Noble vs Gunn was wack and predictable..


If they just left out those three matches and gave more time ta the 3 title matches.. I woulda been happy


Was still a good ppv IMO... Better than Raw's suck ass one
