i don't get depression...why it affects poeple(or why people let it affect them) so severely. and i'm not trying to sound like some lame asshole either. i just don't understand it. why do people give up so easily...or at all? i mean, i've had some pretty rough times and devastating things happen to me and around me, but i've never felt like i was depressed...completely helpless/hopeless, suicidal, lost, overwhelming and prolonged sadness and whatever else is associated with depression. obviously those of you that have had it, have overcome it...but how did you fall into it in the first place? i often ask people(who admit to me that they were depressed at one point in their lives) what it was that made them depressed...and some of the times my inner reaction was, "are you fucking kidding me?? THAT'S why you were depressed?!"....and other times it sounded understandable, once i even felt like a jerk for asking cuz her story was so bad, i almost off'd myself. lol but it just seems to me that most people's reasons for being depressed are completely unwarranted. shit happens...pick up the pieces, put them back together and move on. with that said, when shit did happen that's what i did...as hard as it fucking was. i know i can't be the only one that feels/knows that he(or she) can overcome anything....anything.

anyways, the two more prominent incidents/experiences that have had the biggest affect on me were falling from a tree and nearly dying, but it wasn't the dying part cuz it's not as if i was aware/conscious of my near death experience...i just woke up without knowing that until i was told. what did happen was that when i woke up, i felt different...as if i were not me. it's difficult to explain and i have some wild theories, but simply put, after i woke up... i felt like i was in someone elses body with someone elses memories. the way i was after the accident is not the way(or who) i was before it. if that makes any sense to anyone.

the second being my move to MN. it had a profound and unexpected affect on me. could have been the culture shock, but being in a place where you knew and felt you belonged, basically had it all(and rightfully so), along with a certain amount of fame and notoriety during the most critical years of your teenage years, and then having all that taken away to a place where you felt so displaced....no matter how sure you are of yourself, something like that is going to change you. and it did. i sometimes wonder how i(personally) would have turned out if i were given the chance to fully mature where i was and undoubtedly belonged. still, it's not bad now, i'm fine with myself and how i turned out, but i can't help but wonder. i would have been a beast lol

At 14 attempted suicide and ended up in a hospital with a good art therapy program. That paved the way for work with mentaly handicapped children in an art program which paved the way to working with people in a senior center which led to working with military veterans...wow, never realized how that all fit together, cool...College itself was a great experience for me. I was a psy. major so I learned alot about myself, if nothing else.

Moving to GA was a nightmare, still is, and has had a negative effect on my view of self and where I fit in the world and I became very cynical about, well, everything since.

So far fostering has been eye opening and quite rewarding as well as frustrating...I am sure its going to leave a very big impact on me.

There is more, but thats all I feel like sharing now ;-)

I had very, very bad depression issues when I was younger. All of it literally went away when I stopped smoking and cut back big time on eating sugary foods. Cause I used to eat a ton of candy, pop, etc. I also at one point was up to a pack a day too. No joke man, stopping those two got rid of everything.

Excessive sugar raises estrogen, which isn't good especially for men.
