He didn't count on the matter of funny being more powerful than straight up logic. I think Riko could of gotten the win and faced me this week if he had posted one of those verses he's been saving for me, Talent, vern and other known rstlers....... As far as Tek goes........

DivineRhymes69: So on a couple of reality tips, how do you feel the state of the RSTL is right now? Are we really weak? Are we really strong? What's going through your mind week in and week out as one of the most reliable participants of the league?
Gentlmancaller4u: I feel voting isn't being done on an overall assessment of skills and being done on personal content that voters like the most. People aren't judging on excellent writing, flow, vocab and creativity as much as they are voting for relatable topical coverage. I think the skills need to be graded and the winner should be chosen from that and leave all the personal content votes to a minimum..... And if they can't be subjective, then they shouldn't vote on that match. I love this league though and it's writers are getting stronger and stronger. With Corey back now, I look forward to facing him soon hopefully. I think Talent will be showing his head soon too. He's been snooping around lately and even voted in Corey's match, even tho the vote didn't count with the new rule about ex champs voting

Gentlmancaller4u: I actually suggested that Mad added Tali even before Riko dropped moddin so that's a great pick up. I don't see illness backwards guy on much so maybe he's not on enough to be an effective mod. You and moms are carrying the weight..... No offense to you, but I'm seeing Moms do a lot of the dirty work that it takes to run the league...... *applauses yo momma*

PERCEPTION AND REALITY

The following section is a close-up look at the RSTL through the third eye in seeing what exactly is perceived by most as opposed to what is reality. As an opinionated piece, readers will either agree or disagree to the following but then will also allow them to think over what they view the particular example therefore, making it something to think about…Here we go…

PERCEPTION:
Outspoken RSTL players who spam EMCEE HOOKUPS bring down the league.


REALITY:
False – folks like L-DOGG, RIKOSHAY, VIZZ, and those who formerly or are currently in the RSTL can voice their opinions about the league as much they wish. But although the RSTL doesn’t possess or hold a strong or solid weekly count like the RBL does, the one thing that we can definitely say is that the league won’t die. We won’t have to worry about how bad or how horrible the league is, because for every three or four mods that fall, there will be 6-8 that will step up to keep it going. If there is one thing that the RSTL possesses more than the RBL, its passion. You can get a guy like MAC FLOW or VIZZ BLADE or a VERN-ACULAR to leave the RSTL and say that they’ll be gone for good. Then months later, theyre back… and usually when they’re back, they stay as much as they can. The rant and rave of the RSTL promotes more publicity and hype and although it doesn’t directly promote more people in the league, it benefits and draws excitement from those currently in to witness, reply, speak their minds and watch. In another words, the controversy, the beef, the yapping keeps the fellowship of the RSTL folks to be aware and to enjoy it even if they’re a target of some situation that’s brewing. Outspoken RSTL cats never kill a league, but they raise issues and do speak to let the MODS know what they feel is wrong and what could be done to make it right. When I was mod, I was always listening to people and seeing what they feel was wrong with the RSTL. I would look at it from a long-term effect and see if its actually a beneficial thing or not. It’s like being general manager of a team or the president of a sport. You look, listen, see and speak your mind after everything is addressed. The mods keep the league going. They are the president, the general managers, the refs, and the committee. Even if they reject a proposal or a suggestion from one of the RSTL members, they at least are informed a step further of the league’s development and status. By learning, seeing and having everyone see how its runned, promotion to keep it alive will always be in the minds not just from the mods… but from the people also because they will have their way of seeing how they would run the league. The RSTL has flourished to allow a system to be created, and made to be run by the people. The people who compete are at one time (for some) the ones who keep it going. And as long as multiple mods are there to keep it going…. Anyone speaking their minds will NOT hurt the league… but actually HELP it.

PERCEPTION:
If you’re in the league for a long time, voters will get tired of your writing style and vote against you.


REALITY:
A competitor will have haters and will have fans. If the competitor maintains himself to not to create beef with anyone in the league, most likely the haters will at some point appreciate who they don’t like. How??? Shutup and write. Write and focus on your own verse and forget what others think. At one occasion, you will somehow find that one time… where that one rhyme u write will be apart from what u usually write… and that verse can actually be the change or the niche that you’re looking for that makes u a better writer. – I don’t believe that any writer is STUCK to just their own one style. With many influences of people I love reading like DESENUTS, JERSEY-EMCEE, JOOKS... or JOWELZ, RICH COREY…. Every person comes in their own. And by accident or by some thought-process… that ordinary verse you write can actually be shown apart from others in one little line that you type that defines the quote that pretty much defines the outcome of your win. Voters will vote against you… but that’s because you fail to maintain the way you were when they DID vote for you. Being in a league for 18 weeks straight like RIKOSHAY is long enough for anyone to know and see what kind of writer he is. But as long as you can keep yourself fresh writing creatively, freshly, and precisely…. The sky is the limit. You control your own destiny when you type out those verses… so the perception is dependent only if you are maintaining.

PERCEPTION:
Winning a match is all about having the best verse.


REALITY:
Winning a match is actually not about utilizing mechanics and coming top notch with it. There are several other factors that come into play in winning a match.

a. As I said before, every individual has fans. They have those one or two particulars who appreciate and like their rhymes. And week in and week out by increasing his fan base of writers, he gives himself a higher percentage of opportunity in getting a win by just presenting them their best verse. As long as the writer comes his 100% whether if its his best or not, about 50% of his fan base will vote for him. It’s true.. riders exist for everyone. The thing that’s critical is… how many of them can you obtain to favor you? That’s where your persona, and other characteristics as a person on the message boards comes into play.

b. Intimidation – for some people, intimidation is a factor for winning. Trash talking, boasting and sometimes arrogance plays a part in a match. In my years being in the league, there have been many that have told me that my competitors would instant message them and tell them that they’re not ready, or they haven’t written a verse yet, or whatever. Intimidation lets the opponent know that theyre confident and that they can beat them because they know that theyre capable. When you’re opponent is someone like this… you pretty much lose confidence and wonder how you’ll compete if you don’t come up with a hot verse.

c. Strategy – the age old comparison of storytelling vs topical is KEY. Storytelling vs topical is just like rhyme(song)-writing vs poetical writing. People who like poetical writing are either lesser or more depending on who’s in the league currently. Knowing your peers is key also. Analyzing the way a person votes also tells a lot about who you can favor when writing. While most voters say that theyre honest and truthful when they vote, there’s a pretty good chance that on a personal level, they will take the ones they feel they like better… and to identify who they are and what they like… is vital to how you come with what you write. Storytelling is pretty much a green light for practically every voter. As long as you incorporate a clever story…mechanics are all you need to concentrate on to convince that you got the win. Simple. By using strategy in who your opponent is and how they’ll come against you is important also. So in case… knowing your voters and your opponent is strategy…. Being able to know how to come with a verse will likely be the way to getting you a win.

The number of people that sign in the RSTL is dependent on the season.


REALITY:
Even in the vacation during summer and winter, the league hasn’t really increased dramatically at all. While the number of people signing in weekly is somewhat satisfying, as long as the top 10-20 has its heavyweights and ‘good’ newbies… who cares. The league will remain and the league won’t die.

The Spotlight

"RSTL PPV"

This week marks the debut of the PPV and the start of a new chapter in the history of the rstl. The PPV's will give the public a chance to vote for the match-ups that they have been dying to see, but which the weekly rankings of the RSTL have not yielded yet. Whether this will be a success or not will be judged in time, but what we do know is that this PPV has generated a lot of talk, from both sides, favoring and opposing it. Not only does this event come in the wake of some of the biggest scandals the league has seen, but it is also occurring the week after the leagues long time raining champ has been de-throned. With JOOK signing out however, the title is up for grabs, and two of the leagues more veteran writers are grasping for the chance to be immortalized. This PPV would have been just as aptly named had it been called "Upheaval" because that is exactly what has preceded it. If everyone shows, and posts a strong story this will be one of the better weeks in RSTL history, not just a title up for grabs in the league, but there are ego's on the chopping block in the PPV, and I guarantee: Heads will roll.
