Talen't Top Ten
Last Week's Best Verses
10. Erykah Caine...
...when it comes down to it, the RSTL has never had a female member quite like Ms. Erykah Caine...her writing is rough yet very poetic, and she always has a sense of intellectual appeal running throughout...she has maintained success by her understanding of the minds of her writing subjects...give her the right topic, and she can without a doubt compete with the best...this week her verse wasn't as original as it could have been, but she still more than held her own...watch out.
9. Retulen Reactus...
...the man formerly known as One's Abyss made a post in Emcee Hookups, telling us all to try when we write our verses...it is fairly obvious that he took his own advice, as this might be the best verse i've seen from him...he laid out a very interesting concept, the devil writing to sin...his writing was very polished, smooth, and vibrant - full of good strong images and emotion...very well done, we can only hope you keep on trying.
8. Anaphora...
...it's interesting what varying styles we all have...Anaphora is more on the prose side, but lately he has been leaning toward a more artistic form of writing...he grappled with a very interesting storyline...i've got to say, the ending was comical...not in a laugh out loud way, but in a "that's brilliant" way...his imagery was very well formated and laid out neatly, as we've come to expect from this guy...and he brought us an original storyline...very good verse from a guy who is a serious contender.
7. Atheist...
...a while back, i wrote a verse on a similar concept to what Atheist wrote this week...he wrote on the development of human kind, and how we've grown into our nature, human nature...it was a thought out and complete verse and it was written very well...Atheist is top five in this league in terms of word choice, in my opinion...he's a very natural storyteller and his progression in this verse showed that...well done.
6. Tekneek...
...sometimes i sit and wonder about what makes up tekneek...he's quite possibly the most inconsistant performer in the RSTL...he's got the talent but he never shows it for long enough stretches of time to win another title to back up the somewhat shady(if you ask me, based on the circumstances, but i'm not going to get into that) title he has...however, recently he's been working on a more natural and poetic style that's really done wonders, and allowed him to win three straight, against respectable opponents...Tek's verse had a lot of interesting thoughts brought in and was very smooth...well done.
5. Ashen Horse...
...Pestilence aka Ashen Horse is a very abstract writer...he hinges on deep thought and an abundant vocabulary to allow his thoughts to show...varied philosophies was his direct object of discussion this week, but he hit on a deeper subject..he allowed his reader to understand the philosophies of three men with very differing views, and then connected the three men through a great metaphor dealing with building bridges rather than daming rivers to pave roads, if you understand what i mean...if not, this verse probably wasn't for you anyway.
4. headless verseman...
...though he's often overlooked at this site, headless verseman is one of the best overall text heads at RM, if not on the net in general...he's a very good lyricist, and he proved it this week, taking a look at everything that writing does for the writer...though i've often felt that he doesn't put full effort into his RSTL verses, this was still a very well done tribute to the pen and the pad...verseman's saying he's going to win this tournament...we'll see about that, but he's good enough to make a run at it.
3. Edward Lake...
...so it's officially revealed, i guess...Edward Lake is Vadik...people stopped biting their tongues...anyway, Vad really came dope with his verse this week...a social commentary on the modern urban lifestyles, and the cycle they produce...an interesting story of love where love was not the central focus, and yet was the main concept...it had the feel of a movie...the story of Mike and Monica...very well done.
2. MC4Sight...
...this guy has one of the most unique writing styles the RSTL has ever seen...matter of fact, he has THE most unique writing style in the RSTL...he writes a lot like James Joyce would if James Joyce had been a stoner...yet his verses offer so much...the storylines are very simplistic, yet the word choice and incredibly polished use of poetic devices make an MC4Sight worth the read everytime...he also has a great grasp on appealing content, bringing a small scale picture to a large scale audience...guy's got a solid career in independent film making.
1. Infinite Truth...
...if 4Sight has the most unique, then Infinite Truth can't be far behind...i just love his style...also based on a very abstract and loose rhyme scheme and a multitude of poetic devices, Truth has some of the most insightful verses you'll find...one thing i love about an infinite truth verse is the amount of description he can throw in...and he allows his imagery to be essential to character development, which shows a lot of polish...he's a great writer and a very unique one, but his verses are amazing...this week proves no different.
