Various Statistical Oddities and What They May or May Not Mean

Number 1
1 time champ with lowest winning percentage.
Peepers - .455 (5-6)
2 time champ with lowest winning percentage.
TekneeK - .660 (70-36)
3 time champ with lowest winning percentage.
Atheist - .778 (42-12) He's also the only three time champ lol.
4 time champ with lowest winning percentage.
Awedishin - .704 (57-24)
5 time champ with lowest winning percentage.
Jowelz - .741 (63-22)
Anybody notice a trend here? Aside from Peepers and Atheist obviously, the people with the lower percentages are ones who did the bulk of their work back when the league had 50 to 60 members every week. This does not mean that they had to face higher skilled competition than the newer bunch. They did, however, have to face a lot more skilled individuals to even get to a champ match in the first place. It's sort of like comparing the 90's Bulls to the 80's Lakers. 80's Lakers had a higher number of solid teams to get through in order to even see the finals. The Bulls pretty much had one or two teams to beat any given season. This doesn't mean that the Bulls were any less of a team than the Lakers in the same way that the Bulls having a better overall record makes them more of a team than the Lakers. In other words, the comparisons are fun, but in the grand scheme of things, they don't mean shit, so leave that whole argument alone. New people, it wouldn't have been as easy back then to get a title regardless of your skill level. Old people, these new people are just as good as or better than the folks back then. Get over yall's selves lol.

What do these guys have in common? How in the hell is it that none of these competitors has won an RSTL title? Now again, all 5 of these guys were doing their work in the more heavily crowded days, but still, you'd think they would have managed to accidentally stumble across a championship here or there. Still, what does that tell you about the significance of one's record and how that relates to one's success in the league. I don't know. This goes back to the article I wrote a few weeks ago regarding the rule about not resetting records. I feel like the main reason people would reset their records is because they wanted them to look nicer. Perhaps they picked up losses along the way that caused their records to lack a little luster. That's great IF you're working under the assumption that one's record is a direct indicator of one's ability and or success. Let's put this to rest please.
Pain (20-16)
Vigil (26-19)
Ssenlli (18-10)
Insense (23-12)
Idol Z (6-3)
Poetiquette (20-9)
What do these guys have in common? These six individuals have won 1 RSTL championship at one point or another. None of them win 70% of their matches, but they all have that coveted title. Thaumaturge sits 12-1 and he's beaten some of the best the RSTL has to offer, and what does he have to show for it? So, I guess I pose this question for yall' to ponder. What is more important to you: Winning titles or winning matches?
Individuals with at least 1 title who have less than 10 wins.
SacriFICE (9-1)
Shrug (6-2)
Solution (8-2)
Idol Z (6-3)
Peepers (5-6)
Number 3
This one here is purely for shits and giggles. I was looking at the user names of people who have won at least one RSTL championship. Some fairly strange trends arose.
Individuals who have a part of their name that starts with the letter R account for:
144 wins
26 losses
.847 winning %
15 championships
(Rikoshay, Runna Da Mille, Richard Corey, TaLi RodrigueZ, The Return)
Screen names with an actual name in them.
292 wins
64 losses
.820 winning %
25 championships
(Vern Acular, TaLi RodrigueZ, Richard Corey, Nique, Black Jesus, Baron Mynd, Dmetrius, Edward Lake)
Screen names containing two or more parts.
778 wins
223 losses
.777 winning percentage
54 championships
(Vern Acular, Peril Eyez, Tha Talent, TaLi RodrigueZ, Richard Corey, Runna DaMille, Warren Worthington III, Insane Villain, Black Jesus, Infinite Truth, L Dogg, Dah Lohner, Baron Mynd, The Return, Edward Lake, Art Writaz, Noib Da Mutt, Pent uP, Mad Poet, Vizz Blade, Cereal Killer, Jersey Emcee, Idol Z)
Screen names containing only one word or part.
634 wins
235 losses
.729 winning percentage
46 championships
(D.I.C., Jowelz, Awedishin, Atheist, RIKOSHAY, JOOK, SacriFICE, Patriarch, Nique, TekneeK, Claushouse, Converse, Shrug, Lithix, Solution, Dmetrius, Anaphora, Poetiquette, Desenuts, Insense, Ssenlli, Vigil, Pain, Peepers)
What is the moral of the story? Make sure you have word or NAME in your screen name that starts with the letter R. Also, there seems to be a small but insignificant difference between one and two part names. So, the next time you're working on coming up with a good alias that nobody will be able to figure out, make sure you keep these statistics in mind.
Number 4
Facts about titles.
During the first two years of the league, the title changed hands 39 times. In the three years since, the title has changed hands 64 times.
During the first two years of the league, a total of 20 individuals held the title. That is an average of 10 per year. In the three years since, a total of 32 individuals held the title. That is an average of just over 10 and a half per year.
It's funny when people talk about how the title gets passed around too much now and when they suggest that the people winning them now don't deserve to. The numbers don't particularly support one side of the argument or the other. The number of times the title changed hands has increased a bit but the overall number of people holding the title is basically even. So, perhaps people aren't defending the title like they used to, and perhaps it's a quicker road to the top nowadays, but the title isn't being passed amongst undeserving hands as much as some would like to think.
A few final tid bits of useless information before I put this baby to sleep.
