Things seem to by dieing down a little bit around here, but that's okay. The majority of writers are showing up to their matches so mothafuckas aren't wasting their time by posting threads for them to put verses in and give me some shit to read. Fold hollared at me last week and asked me, very politely, to shut the fuck up so I took his advice and yall haven't heard me say shit. A moment of serenity is gravy that I like to have every now and then too so I was feeling Fold and cutting down on the beef and just enjoying a salad instead. It's been pretty peaceful for the most part, things seem to have gotten a little heated with Jook aka Langston Who making a special appearance and baiting Pent Up out of the serene environment we were having, but oh well. Lol, sign your ass in the league Mr Freeposting in matches mothafucka.

Can't critisize people shit if you're not gonna post verses of excellence on a continual basis to live up to the high standards you seem to have for writing.... can you Jook? *Looks in sign in thread*

It's pretty easy to talk shit from the sidelines and Jook's a nice writer, but that doesn't mean shit until you're in here where they are and throwing impeccable flows and gravy smooth sequences for continual wins..... with that said, get your ass in here and lets see if you can get pass our league of distinguished gentlemen. That sounded gay, I meant our league of ass kickin newbs and aliases. Lets see if one of them can fuck up Jook's pretty lil cover girl record in the archives. Lmao


The Champ match this week was a bit less than inspirational though. Didn't really seem like either writer was really motivated to get the win cuz I know I've read much better from both. Maybe my topics last week didn't spark their special interests. Speaking of topics, I know I'm pretty damn good at picking em out for yall, but feel free to throw me some shit in the topical suggestion thread before I get mentally constipated and start farting out recycled shit... topics, not verse. I'm losing focus, took a vicadin and drank a mini bottle of champagne cuz my tooth was hurting and now these sentences are looking like word jumbles.
So if the shit doesn't make sense, oh mothafuckin well.

The league seems to be derived by emotional content right now, whether it be in topicals or in story form, the narrations of dramatic character lives is getting to be the standard. I'm cool with that; everything seems to be driven from real life examples or seemingly real as people tell pieces of their lifes to entertain us. Gravaliscious ninjas...... just keep it interesting. Feel free to show some creativity too, a little surprise ending every now and then, some crazy character developments and witty ass lines from some of our former battlers in the league and shit like that is always good with me. Let's get on with this mag shit though..... This vicadin is kicking my ass and it feels like I've been typing forever so I'm done. Lets spark some interest

3. Pain VS. Pestilence
12. Pain (19-13) vs. 11. Pestilence (7-3)

Pain wrote a kinda poetical piece that was pretty short, but I was really feeling the narration of this piece. Gully, yet eloquent in a way that was appealing. The narration was so natural it was butter to read....good to have this guy back in the league. The flow was nice, nothing over the top, but good descriptions that lead through the entire verse with a smooth kinda story of intrigueing love, I spelled that wrong didn't I? Oh well..... the character development of the couple was weird, but I was diggin it (diggin it, damn I'm old). This piece left me wanting to read more though, I'm not usually one for sappy love stories, but this week, I'm feeling kinda warm hearted towards them and there was a few of them that caught my attention and this was one of them. Some more descriptions of the love birds would of been nice, but Mr. Pain chose the short route and did only a brief outline. Still pretty nice.

Pestilence, what he has seemably written is a peace of death's finale as if it's a parade. The metaphorical trumpets symphony play in a colorful scheme that was also very poetical like Pain's, but with more color and a more vivid use of phrased sequences that made this nice. It was like a very slow motion kinda death as each line used more and more detail to make it so vivid it's opera like dramatic movements. Also a very short verse, but more than likely to match the previous piece posted 1st by Pain. Regardless, he braught his ideas to light with some cool flow and well worded topical that I think would go nicely as a spoken word to some crazy drums and of course, trumpets playing in the background. The wanting to sleep lines spread in and out the piece is what made me think of this being about death, but it could be something different in a metaphorical sense I guess. If it is, then I'm totally lost and I'm not afraid to admit that.


2. Mr. Mynd VS. Ron Deau
Contenders: 4. Baron Mynd (9-2) vs. 3. Ron Deau (2-0)

This was a nice match to read. Wasn't as even of a matchup really, but I still enjoyed reading both.

Mr Mynd giving a sweet story of a loving relationship. Awww, kinda makes me wanna call my ex and introduce her to this other girl so I can watch.... just kidding, but this nicely displayed love story started off hot and steamy with some passionate love making and sensual wordings and of course I enjoyed that. The narration was nice as figity fuck fuck with some flow that had me and kept me reading. The detailing of the storyline kept my attention as the story unfolded with a blam... "I'm preggy" from the wifey. Very dramatically motivated content obviously and it was easy to see where the verse was going, but that wasn't the point really as much as the gripping sequences that got it there. Thought a little more emotional outletting from the wifey character would of made this nicer, but gravy shit mr. mynd.

Ron Deau, isn't that the name of the shooting guard on the phoenix Suns? No, it's the Power Forward? Ok, anyway.... the rage expressed in the narration was interesting. It showed dissapointment in his lover, who is/was a dope fiend who fell on some bad times like most fiends usually do. The narration was nice and gave the emotional feel of a co-dependant relationship as the main character guy keeps saving her sorry, but love makes you do some pathetic shit, doesn't it... yea, we all know it does. The flow was cool, pretty natural to go along with the read and not take anything away from the content, but the content needed a bit more on the female character development. A fiend goes through some oddly tragic shit to get their fix especially when they're all fucked up like this girl seemed to be. Some interesting things could of happened with this like.... her getting her ass beat for oweing money, panhandling for change, being dingy and nasty... something to push some interesting content would of helped this I think. I enjoyed what was done with this verse, but like I said, missing some development of the dope fiend character.


Match of The Week

1. Flowetic VS. Sacrifice
10. Flowetic (7-1) vs. 9. SacriFICE (4-1)

Nice ass battle and some very different styles, narrations and characters made this match really nice to compare the two styles.

Sacrifice came in with hard hitting flow like usual and a nice array of multies and inner rhymes made this piece catchy from the jump. The content was really creepy in the spirit of Halloween too as he goes through a crazy transformation and starts becoming a creature of darkness. The transition of this verse was the most important feature I think and that was done nicely as he fully expressed the metamorphasis with some nice details and graphic descriptions. That's some good shit. I was feeling this..... the vocab was on point, the flow was superb and the mechanics of it were all in nice sequence with the topic of kissing the darkness. Hell to the mothafuckin chea.... whatever you're smoking, keep puffin cuz that shit was fire.

Flowetic throwing down a nice childhood story that I found very amusing as I followed the details. The character development was the most important part of this piece and that was well done. The narration sounded like a kid in some parts, which made the character seem childish and then growing up the narration became a little more mature so that was pretty cool too. The flow was nice, not as deeply impacted with multies as the Sac's, but still made for smooth reading. The character of the wife/girl/child hood friend, I thought that could of been expanded a lil more, but I still liked the read as it reminded me of my childhood moments and this girl myeisha that went to pre school with me. She threw a fat hard ball of dirt at me one day in the sand box and I beat her ass..... that kinda ended our shit, but anyway....several parts made me smile with a yourhful innocence of the story that I enjoyed.

My most enjoyed verse was by....
Sacrifice....
I had to read your piece THREE TIMES, because of the ambigious manner it was written in. HOWEVER, after the second read I grasped wtf u were talking about, and I read it one more time so that I could acctually critique it...with that said, each time I read this piece the flow of it carried very NATURALLY, which I guess is better than having a bunch of flow thjat fucks the content up, however the excess in rhymes, and the manner in which they were placed left the lines feeling stretched at times, as well, some of them felt redundant, in the sense of repeated, SUCH AS "hardest to live.Hard to exist, The story you dropped was about a dude being turned into a vampire, and the way you portrayed it was dope, with aesop-rock type imagery, and it was consistent UNTIL that second to last stanza. Now that second to last stanza started out cool but then you went into 'i love you' and resurrection by words and shit that I couldnt connect to the rest of your verse, which confused the shit out of me because it took away from its tone, also the rhyming fell off in this stanza, but then your closer did it justice. Overall a pretty impressive verse

Oh god how glad am I that you threw your foot in between the axle and wheel of an ATV, as fucked up as that sounds. I think I counted 50 lines that you dropped, but they were half lines so you really dropped 25, but I mean they had inners and multis, and poetic devices all around, so it was fucking dope. What I liked about this is the use of music as metaphors. There was an instance of weird wording with the 'jazz type' part but other then that I liked how everything glided from thought to thought, and how your thoughts were so concise yet they still evolved wonderfully. Filled with an immense amount of poetic devices this verse carried itself from start to finish and to victory, keep writing fool

This was Hip Hopera Meets Peter Pan, not in the sense that it was fairy like, just the child-like language of PP. I liked the story, it was cool, I agree with the voters that said you shouldnt have any parts that dont rhyme in a story, not in the league at least. The reminesence of the song and the way you tied the two loves together was pretty dope, the story itself I didnt have much a problem with, except there was a little lack of development of characters, I mean its not that it wasnt there its just there were somethings I wish were more glorified, like the meaning of the ring at the begginning. But my problem with this more so than not was the rhymes and how they were placed, they were pretty fresh rhymes but it was something I'd have to hear audio to appreciate, because I most certainly (after reading this verse) dont announce things like you do. overall this was a cool piece to get back in the groove of the RSTL, I hope you keep coming fresher and iller

Staying Champ Without Voting? Hell Nah

It has been braught to my attention that the rule that was changed from having votes subtracted from your match to not advancing when you don't vote has a fatal flaw. For those that were around when Rikoshay imposed this rule over a year ago, it seemed like a cool idea for the point system thing at the time, but he did mention something to me about it that I didn't really care to think of as a consequence to the league at the time because it wasn't being abused by the current champs..... That fatal flaw is, if you're already ranked #1 as champ, then why the fuck would you need to advance any further in the ranks. Eccentially, you could not vote in any matches for long lengths as long as you were champ and still remain champ and get wins added to your record. HELL MOTHAFUCKIN NAH NINJAS.... NOT GONNA HAPPEN ANYMORE.

Effective immediately, Champs will have to post verses and vote to remain champ. Being a champ is the ultimate honor of the league and should have a higher set of standards. People may feel as if it's easier to climb to a title nowadays, but it's still a position of respect especially to those who haven't gained a title yet. So... 4 matches will be required if your opponent shows to vote on and 2 with 1 being the Contender's Match if the win is gained by no show. Failure to vote accordingly will result in no win and no title gained, the record will remain the same and you can try again to get that title as you remain at the same rank.

These are updated for your protection and benefit because nobody likes a lazy ass champ. This message has been braught to you by Gully Guy Moderations. If it's not gully, it's just not worth fucking with.

H.Notik: true well...i've been so biased to the rstl for so long...i mean tali was trying to get me down for awhile but i always felt most cats in the league except for a few focused way to much on multis...to the extent where it fucked up there flow horribly. my whole style i guess is an evolving thought - every line can rhyme at the beggining, middle or end...but i dont focus on the rhyme, if you get what i mean...i hit the topic with a train of though approach..and never fine tune it. the flow, content and cadence is what it is...but dont get my first statement wrong there is an extreme amount of talent in the rstl and now i feel it's time for me to open some eyes and minds.

H.Notik: yea no doubt...i won this topical league on hip hop terms 3 years in a row back when the site was still running and more recently i havent lost in the pen an paper league at rhymenreason. i think the league is actually starting back up so it's time to get to work. last time i was in it i blazed through the league and got dq'd in the championship match cuz i was over the line limit by ONE line. this cat exes knew he lost and had to find a way to win. i labled that cat a pussy forever.

H.Notik: i'm not to fixiated on flow even though i like a smooth read but honestly i normally vote based on how much i truly enjoyed the writers verse. but i always like to point out the persons strong and weak points to show where there style shined and what needs work.

Pent, your synopsis of my shit is appreciated, but it seems that the metaphorical switch up went over your head, as well as a few others that I showed this too, I tried to throw in some markers to kind of, initiate the change-over but like sometimes happens, my clarity kind of dwindled slightly during that transition.
