INTRODUCTION

Well well well.... We have a new champ in this bitch and he's undefeated. *dog pile on the new champ* Sacrifice has pulled off some nice shit and managed to squeeze through a win against Tali and Pent Up, which is of course no easy task. Many might question the caliber of voting in this match or in the league at the moment, but nevertheless, he's gotten the Victory and his 1st RSTL title. Interesting, I think I remember this guy as Evercleer or something back in the day and also in the RBL... surely didn't see that coming.

In the brief review of the week we've had some great writing as matches get much more difficult to decide a winner. Thaumaturge vs. TheReturn comes to mind in last week's Contender's Match, which ends up in a tie that some people may think is unfair and unwarranted. Nothing new to this league though, lol, we always want to win in this bitch so this week's champ match has BLOOD BATTLE written all over it.

Sombody's gonna be bathing in it.....

While somebodies are gonna need refills from the local hospital.

But we have a lot of great match ups this week. Vern VS IV is one that I think will end up nice a flow packed with multies and inners getting unloaded like farts at a chilli cook off. (played joke, i know.. shuddup) The Elite seems to be making a slight comeback and renewing their senior citizen memberships. I wonder if some of these aliases are hiding Elite crew members behind them. hhmmmm.. oh well. Lol, those guys are much too respected and honest writers to do something like that right. If they show up to their matches and give us something to vote on I'll be happy cuz we that hasn't been their specialty.

In other news.. MY GABBY TURNED 8

Yea, my daughter is getting old. She actually said she wanted money this year to just go shopping when she wanted and where she wanted. Ain't that bouta bitch. So I'm taking her shoppin this weekend with the money I gave her Sunday at Chucky Cheese... AKA Orgy for kids. These bad ass lil kids were all over the place. My lil neice, she's only 3, climbed into the baskball game to slam dunk the ball. LMAO, gotta luv it.

Anyway thooooooo, let's get on with this shit shall we. This is a Mini Mag this week because I'm the mothafucka that writes almost of it weekly and I had my daughter's birthday, my bosses wedding and covering for my boss while he's on his honeymoon to do... so I've been busy ninjas.

Matches of the Mothafuckin Week

3. Heinous/Insanevillian VS. -13-
16. Heinous 1-0 VS 17. -13- 0-0

Both of these guys dropped very short pieces, but I was amuzed with this match nevertheless.

-13- came with a story using the pigs in a battle plane pic that I posted as one of last week's topics. His flow and narration was cool and humorous so I hope he sticks around to show what else he can come with when his focus in clearer on completing a full verse. It basically compares humanity to being pigs and ending it with.... the day pigs could fly. Needed more content of course and some more development of the characters, but this oculd of been a nice piece if more focus was placed on it and doing the things I just mentioned.

Heinous wrote a piece about the revolution of The Black Panthers. My mom was a Black Panther during these days in Oakland California so this content kinda hit me closer to home I guess. He spoke of the struggles during those times with police and how cocaine ruined this movement in the 70s as drugs filled the streets and leaders disspeared in Oakland. He didn't discuss that though. He spoke of police bringing in the cocaine, which I don't doubt either. OPD is shady... point over at Jook, who's a member of my city's police dept.... the Oakland Police Dept that it. lol... protect and serve my ass. no homo

The serious content was what got the voters attention though and IV pushes forward to face Vern this week. ooooooooo


2. Tali VS. Pent Up VS. Sacrifice
Championship: 1. Adderall XR 30 6-1 VS 2. Pent Up 36-13 VS 3. Sacrifice 3-0

The hard hitting writers going for the title at once. I thought the results of this match weren't that accurate as how I'd calculate a winner, but I'm not in the league so who gives a fuck. Lol

Sacrifice took a topical approach, which seems to be his strengths because I haven't seen a story from him yet, but this was actually quite nicely executed. Although the topic was pretty standard and not really nothing to jump at as far as content goes, the narration was nice as fuck. The flow was filled with some inners and some cool multies as well as some nice lines, which doesn't surprise me since he's a battle guy. I think his wit is what appealed to the readers in this match as it caught my attention a few times. Broken in a few different stanzas, he pieced them all together behind the theme of A simple letter; ... and that's pretty much what it was. A simple letter


Adderall posted a great topical piece of his struggles in life as he starts it off discussing how he's given up smoking trees. BOOOOO

I REITERATE... CHOOSE WEED
His verse was nicely written though as it ocntinues in analyzing his past events and constructing his future. Damn, that sounds boring huh, but it wasn't boring at all. The narration is what gave this piece some life and the personal effect on it made the meaning strong as well. Kinda reminds me of some shit Kanye West would say in his rhymes with being really so politically correct in searching for meaning in doing what he does. I really liked this piece because it was real... not just in the sense of it being about realistic concepts, but the writer's voice was his voice and you could truly sense that in every line. Heartfelt without being self loathing with cry baby styled narration. Mature writing for topicals... that's what this represented.

Last, but not least... Pent Up comes in with a piece that pulled me in from the start, but kinda got boring in the middle with details of a relationship going bad. The start was imagery filled as the couple gets into a nice fight and the domestic dispute has her slappin him while he's seemingly scared standing in a corner watching the cable box? Lmao, I dunno, but it was entertaining. Then the couple decides to try an work it out and somehow adopting an Ethopian comes into play. Sounds like Brad Pit and Angelina Jolie doesn't it? That's what I was thinking as I continued to read. The ending was just weird though to me. The kid doesn't know them and has no idea who they are so it was a scam? And this scam fixed their marriage with the idea of unity gained from the focus of taking care of a child that's not theirs and they never obtained in the first place. Interesting, but the details in the middle could of been minimalized to make room for this ocmplex ending I think so it could of been more eventful and entertaining.

MATCH OF THE WEEK

1. Thaumaturge VS. TheReturn

Contenders: 4. TheReturn 2-0 VS5. Thaumaturge 11-0

Blazing the flow made this a show, where the schemes made it come close and was debated by most, but still Thau was left feeling hated and so... this tie continue this week so somebody's braking that -0....

This tie leads to a 3way champ match with Sacrifice, who's also undefeated. A champ match of undeated members. Nice....

TheReturn started his piece about times of war and then introduced his character who is on the front line in Nam (Vietnam I assume) as he paints a historical moment in time with his imagery. His narration was nicely worded with some strong flow that kept me entertained all the way through. The concept itself obviously isn't a new scheme for our league, but the defining moments of the verse lied within the content as the story was told. I gotta say this was easy to get through, but I do love war stories usually. They're not really that difficult to write because it's mostly twisted graphics of murder and utter chaos that keeps the reader focused, but still...... it's also easy to fuck up by focusing on something that's not interesting to read. TheReturn stayed focused though and made me enjoy this read.

Thaumaturge had a verse with so much flow, it's was a lil overwhelming and may have had voters thinking he spent too much time on that element and not enough on the actual content of his story in making it progress in an enteraining or amuzing way. Much like Pent's verse, I found some of the details of Thau's to be kinda plain and very uneventful, which seemed really odd because his character is boy that grows up in the streets with his mom being a hoe.. I think he means she's a hooker. The rough element of a street life wasn't really focused much through the verse though and instead was replaced with him working for a tailor before finally giving in to getting rich as a criminal.... I know, it sounds like the movie Paid In Full doesn't it? Maybe other voters thought that as well. This was seemingly written to be dramatical more than graphic, which was in my opinion a mistake because Paid in Full was full of action and those were the best scenes of the movie. The drama just went well with the action.

Thau doesn't seem to think that this match should of even been close as he said he out wrote TheReturn on every level of writing. *I think that's what he said if I read his post in the HOokUps correctly, but originality wasn't the factor of this match. It was pretty much about the content. Either you liked the way TheReturn painted his verse with imagery or you liked the way Thau told his dramatic story filled with killer flow and a few really long ass lines. lol... Nice match fellas. Goodluck to both in the 3way champ match.

TaLi: haha..Tell him, now that I'm signed out, it's just a matter of time...Ok so, state your name, affilliation, and whatever the hell else cool folks tend to do to introduce themselves.

SacriFICE: Uh, I'm Sacrifice... of The Rebel Union, and IMA (Ill Mic Aphyliates), from the nowhere city of Frederick, Maryland.

TaLi: Aight lol..Now that we've got that out of the way, how does it feel to be champ of a league that you didn't even know existed until a month ago?

SacriFICE: Well, I'm definitely SURPRISED... at first as you know, I didn't really know if I had what it took to make a move in the league, I guess because some of the writers in the league from what I observed
before I signed in were really above me as far as writing, or so I thought, such as you... ha. But yeah, it's definitely cool to be at the top already, it's bringing out the best that I have to offer as far as writing goes.

TaLi: Yeah, I pretty much knew you'd kill in this league given the sorts of things they tend to look for. I can thank myself for losing lol. Ok so, what do you like about the league and what aren't you feeling so much?

SacriFICE: Haha, I was SHOOK when I knew I was going to have to face you, honestly... but hey. Anyway, uh, I like the league A LOT for a couple reasons, I guess mainly it allows for me to expand myself as an emcee, giving me some help thinking of some conceptual songs to write, helping me stay away from the redundant, "I'll rip the fu.ck out of emcees" type of track (which I will by the way..lol, kidding kidding)...But yeah, I love having some motivation to be more creative then maybe I normally would sometimes, gets me out of the routine with
my writing and is helping me build, even after all these years of writing... another thing I like a lot (although not as much now), is reading what other talented writers stuff, I like voting because I can give me honest opinion on a piece and for the most part I feel like people take it seriously. And at the same time, having other writers of lesser/equal/greater talent read my stuff and give me feedback, I think I enjoy receiving the votes the most because I prefer honesty when it
comes to telling me if my shit sucks, or if its great. What I'm not really feeling as much, I guess, no offense to anybody and their writing, but, some of the stuff lately has been getting pretty redundant, not saying I might not be part of it but, it seems a lot of cats are trying to write edgy stories and failing with lackluster twists about killing and murder and shit.. I don't know, maybe its just me but,
I joined the league because of what I read from prior weeks, past champions and what not, it seems a lot of the stuff is getting bland and the competition isn't nearly as high anymore... other than that, I like that I can keep to myself and just write and get feedback.

TaLi: Well yeah, I showed you some of the better pieces of the better
people lol. But yeah, I can't disagree with anything you said. Ugh, I
have to go fix that 'Archive' champ graphic AGAIN for your punk a.ss. Ok
so, being that you rhyme what you write, how does that effect how you
view other folk's stuff?

SacriFICE: Well, it DRASTICALLY effects how I view other folks stuff, unfortunately perhaps sometimes I am a little too hard on some folks and their pieces. I think I'm probably the most anal person in the world about rhyming and words. Like I said in a few of my votes this past week, it seems like a lot of people have the ability to rhyme well, which is a plus for me... but some cats don't…haha, and for me that really takes away from a piece, because after all.. we are all writing rhyming pieces, based on the hiphop form of writing and not poetry.. so utilizing rhyming words to me really adds to a piece's depth and, I don't know... greatness. Another thing is the flow, if I feel like the
writer I'm reading can actually (even if they don't rap) recite the piece with some sort of flow, that really helps, because when I'm reading a piece, I'm hearing it in my head, like I would on a song, and I'm sure its the same for a lot of people in the league... many who actually do rap... but for me, I write these pieces to a beat, with the intention to eventually record, so I think the whole emceeing aspect of all weights heavily on my opinions when reading other people's work,
HOWEVER, that's not to say that I am so close minded that I can't recognize a good piece of work that might not rhyme as well as other's can rhyme... cats can have the most complex set of rhymes and not make a lick of sense.. so yeah, me being an emcee definitely effects it all.

TaLi: Trust me, you aren't the most anal person when it comes to rhymes,
flow, and wording, I think I've more than earned that title over the
years. And yeah, I don't know, maybe it's unfair to view written pieces
through the bias of expecting it to read like a rhyme I'd do lol. But
whatever, at least we know our biases. So shit, I know you haven't been
around much to see many people, but name a few folks who's writing has
impressed you so far.

SacriFICE: Oh man, well... there are quite a few that I've been impressive with... I would HAVE to start with you, since you are
probably my favorite writer in the league, and one of my favorite emcees... but other cats in the league that I enjoy reading, TheReturn: always impresses me with his rhyming and flow, and being able to connect it all to make for a well developed piece. Another of my favorite's, just in the past couple weeks, is Mr. Mynd... this dude writes some really cool stuff, with really good mechanics and, again... RHYMING...haha.. hmm.. Atheist is another, nearly everything from him
that I've read has impressed me in some way. Thaumaturge is another that I enjoy reading, he seems to have his shit together for sure... Vernacular is another... rightfully so, that motherfucker has 100 wins.. (I thought my 40 win record in the RBL was a lot... haha). And I'm sure there are other that I've enjoyed in the past but these cats every week impress me.

TaLi: Is there any one thing that separates the people you mentioned from those you didn't?

SacriFICE: Hmm, I suppose the one thing is the ability to keep me really interested in the piece, which is obviously the most important thing. I like pieces with a lot of structure, or atleast pieces that use
everything in a writer's arsenal to make the piece better, and not just focus on the rhyming. I think a lot people mistake impressive rhyming with EFFECTIVE rhyming... that's probably the key essentially, effective and impressive rhyming. oh and using that to really make the piece progress from beginning to end is a really important thing for me, and that's what really draws me in... almost feeling what the writer was thinking as they wrote the piece... that helps as well.

summer... I play baseball, STILL, lots of basketball... and hanging with my girl... pretty much occupies most of my time away from this music junk.

No Show Verses Of Niceness

Instead of picking out from all the verses posted this week, I took the time to actually look at and read the people that posted real verses in matches where there opponents didn't show. I'm posting those verses and I will start doing this every week for those who post real verses, not 4 lines, wack ass no show verses, so they will get the recognition deserved for putting that much time and effort into their verses. They took the time to write out some nice verses that could of beaten some of the better verses posted this week so here's there moment to shine right along with em....

She took me into the woods that night to show me something
I couldn’t help wondering if maybe one thing would lead to one thing…
But I should’ve known better. That wasn’t Heather,
she was the wind’s feather, not a go getter
in that sense. Listened to happenstance and never mapquest.
She pulled me down Crying Trail, then off into the Fry Vale
but stopped just inside it. That’s when she confided in me, eyes pale
in the moonlight, that two nights before, she saw Molly Two-Sight
walking the trail wistfully, she, listlessly asked if she was doin’ alright.
Molly told her the tale of the trail in a hallowed voice
that, Heather said there, could make you sallow twice.
“Like a trance or something,” she chanced as I shivered in the cold wind
and she glanced down the dirt path to the past looking after old sins.
Recalling the song as though she’d sung it so very long ago,
about the Indian girl who disobeyed her father among the Crow
and ran off with a white boy from the village that’s now gone, though
then it was brilliant. Through the forest, the villagers chased them,
from the other end, the Indians made haste and raced to face them,
both sides disgraced and angry, the lovesick teens, chased and afraid,
ran through the glade, and hearing feet racing, they laid
just off the path, and as the two sides met there was a wild fight,
each side blaming the other for their own child’s flight.
Bodies fell along the side of the path, covering the lovers,
who laid there all the while undiscovered.
At last, only standing were the two fathers, each holding a blade
dropping red on the once green, now dark brown glade.
The Indian girl, seeing the two men’s deaths so imminently
rushed in the middle of the fray and was hacked indiscriminately.
Innocently, she fell to the trail’s path and wailed back,
crying for the sake of the lives lost in her wake, unable to track
how it seemed equal with young love’s frail math.
The fathers and the son, went their three separate ways,
and commenced with days the girl had blessed and gave
to the desperate knaves at the cost of her loss that evening
Heather coughed a little as she stopped her rant, the trees leaning
over the trail caught a breeze and rustling leaves sounded like cries,
echoes of a young girl’s wails on the trail, and Heather sighed,
“Isn’t that great?” I knew she didn’t think of the justice in it,
the mythic wisdom, the tale of lust being timid,
she liked the resolution, the stamp of finality.
A girl, even though through a fatality, escaping her family.
I remembered Heather’s father, strange, sidelong glances at her,
and her hesitation to go home with him after.
So I sat in the chilly woods with her til the black sky swirled at dawn,
listening to the wind in the leaves, the Indian girl’s last song.

Dic's Comments
This was a cool story that was narrated pretty well. Two lovers run away together because I guess their families don't want them seeing each other. Romeo and Juliet kinda theme seemlingly. The families chase them down and get into a fight over it all. The ending of the girl being a victum of their fathers having a knife fight was the clincher in making this very Shakespearian. Nicely told with some cool imagery. The flow could use a little uummph, but this was a cool story man. Welcome to the league.

Hearing the loud snap, but I still think I'm asleep
Then the barrel is lodged in my eye and it's stinging to blink
The core of me is morbidly stiff and in fear
Unequip as I start to piss and adding shit interferes
Soaking in my mess, the duress has me blank of all hope
Unable to hear the echoing words that are blazed from his throat
Finally my senses replenish, but in suspended existence
Endless, relentless as he continually hits me with his fists
Mouth draining blood to my rug with my teeth as the filter
As he's yelling, "Open the safe bitch!" to remind me he's a killer
Knowing I've been set up and better follow directions
Before I meet the blazing heat from his hollow perception
Blood mixes with tears as it slides in murals smeared in my eyes
I wearily try to focus and see through red mirrors of sight

"You're hearing me right? You're gonna be dissapearing tonight
If you don't crack that fuckin lock so I can hear what I like!!"

"Nigga alright. I need a towel, yall see me bleeding and bowels
Got me stinking and foul so you gonna treat me like a child?"

The other burglar is searching my tomb and there's a purse that's persued
And I see it's observed with a view of a girl in the room
I'm turning confused,
Is it a couple that I know from block?

"Here punk."
He hands my the towel and I notice a spot
Chipped off the clip and that's my shit. This bitch is holding my glock
I froze then I dropped,
"Get the fuck up and open that lock!!"

Already exposing their plot and who's involved in the shit
I soften my grip, put in the combo without a pause or a slip

"I guess you want all of my shit? Just take it and leave.
It's probably the caked up cream you're after cuz yall shakin like fiends"

My focused mindstate is retrieved, the latch on the safe get released
As it opens they're scoping the coke and cash they're waiting to see
I pull out 80Gs and he takes it right out my hands,
But little do they know, now this fight has began
There's a 45mm cannon lieing under the cash
Clutched in my grasp for intimacy cuz I'll fuck em with that
He quickly pushes me back after droppin the doe on the floor
And as I fall to the ground I persistedly unloaded more and more
Shots fired in my direction only miss me by inches
But shifting I didn't so I see the bullet split her existence
My eyes are briefly hypnotized as it enters her pupil
Painting the wall and floor with all the gore, resistence is futile
Death enters our school of life, but the lessons are costly
And if I don't quickly regain my focus, I'll be next on Death's dog leash
A deep breath without pausing, then rapid fire commences
From Unreal Tournament, my aiming has a hire percentage
A fight to the finish as I keep thinking about why is it they did this?
They could of asked me and I would happily be supplying their wishlist
My sight on his image reflected off the mirror and I get relentless
Shot 5 times with percision through the drawer and right in his mitten
Crushing bones in his hand and on my command it's flying the distance
Death's cithe is the witness on seeing why I'm so wise in this business
Unsurprising the victums are my brother and his baby's momma
So my nephew's without parents from this escalating drama
Is this the root of evil and what jealousy breeds
This incridible greed to either have it or cist to proceed
Living like beasts and killing family over material things
That moment made give up the streets to get some more peace
I couldn't believe I had to tell our mom I killed her son
Because him and his girl tried to rob me with my gun
Now I raise his son like my own, without corruption of thugs
And through him I feel redeamed in giving my brotherly love

Liked the verse. Thought the narration and flow was well done and it started off nicely to pull me into the writing. The whole scene seemed weird as things start to fall in place for the narator getting robbed and then finding out who was robbing him was like daaaammmnn. But the mothafucka does the right thing and gives up the street life and shit to raise the son of the mothafucka he just had to kill. That's some cool shit. Don't think I would of been so nice, but who knows. Good writing.

i liked most of the mag, top matches/interview/looked over verses was all nicely done.

thought the intro piece was pretty lame though, downplaying sacrifices victory, personal attacks on the elite crew, and why the hell would you include your daughters birthday in an RSTL magazine, all comes off as very smug and egocentric.

rest of the shit was good tho; thought voter of the week was coming back?
