Skies The Limit ---Short Story---
I wrote this shit... a little wihle back...
Skies the Limit
The night still to be birthed, there's a rider soaring the skies. Dru, visibly tired, rests his head on his dragon as it swiftly scales the sky. The dragon, laced with white, silky, cotton-like feathers with a smooth undercoat of scales, is big for its age. Syne, Dru's dragon, is young compared to most of the dragons that are still active.
It got it's name from Dru's mother, who seen the birth of this particular dragon in a vision she had while sleeping. Soon after the dream, Dru's father had gone to the cavern where the dragon was supposed to be born. Hours after searching the cave, about to give up, he had come across Syne's mother giving life to a creature. Syne was took into the household because the mother dragon passed away shortly after Syne came into this world. Syne was then given to Dru as a gift of him becoming a Knight of Pridame.
As a Knight of Pridame, Dru is riding high into the sunset, when he falls into a deep concentration on the back of Syne. He begins to dream.
Dru is lying in a meadow that is resplendent with blossoming flowers and gleaming sunlight. The breeze sailing through his hair, with the sun lighting the entire field, disguising the shadows. There is another being there. The other being a matured, beautiful, young woman. She has marble-like green eyes, perfectly groomed blonde hair, and a smile that offers to the world many joyous facial expressions. They fit perfectly together. It almost seemed as if they have been coalesced and became one.
Suddenly and spontaneously, Dru awoke just in time to narrowly miss an onslaught of attacks. The first 3 attacks were dodged almost with ease, but the next couple of hits had to be dodged precisely at the right time in order to deflect them with his shield.
"Hand over your sword!" The older knight insisted. Dru recognized the attacking knight as Loore. Loore had once served in the rankings of Pridame. He soon turned to the dark side and became a cynical, emotionless, black-hearted general serving second to the hated Tybial. Loore is a much more experienced knight, with black, grey-hightlighted hair. He is missing the typical moustache that is amongst most older knights.
"The sword!? I will not hand over this sword. My father gifted me with this as a parting gift, and I never saw him again. This is mine, and I will never hand it over to anyone!" Seeming a little confused as he blurted out his statement.
Why does Loore want my sword.
The sharp tip which it wielded so long ago is gone. The sword has lost its touch through the years in which it's been used. It has been restored many times, but never to its original uniqness.
Loore, almost seeming like he's mocking Dru, says, "Its abilty. Do you know of it? You don't, do you? Just as I had thought. Hand over the sword and you and your petty dragon shall have your life spared." After that was said, Loore, mocking Dru now, begins to laugh hideously.
"Ability? Ability or not, this sword is not going to be han----" Without finishing his statement, Loore and his fierce dragon lunge for an attack. Loore's dragon, known as Ember for his speed and intensity, is a crimson red color, with scars and battle wounds that show that its been in recent wars. Ember, by its tail, is much more older than that of Dru's dragon. Ember has staggering, blood-stained claws which have been used on many occasions before.
Quickly moving out Ember's way, Syne was left open to a clean blow from Loore to damage the wing with his double bladed axe. Syne, with its first battle wound, is now noticably limping and soon to get weak from the chronic blood loss. Without allowing Syne to get numb to the pain, the 2 nemesis' dive in for another attack. Without Syne aware of this one, Ember dug its thick talons into the same wounded wing damaging it even further. Dru, getting nervous of dying now, leans over and whispers to his dragon. Immediatly, Syne flies straight upward like an arrow. Just as he predicted would happen, Loore and Ember pursued to follow them. Seconds go by, all 4 still speeding towards the sky. As Loore starts catching up to Dru, Dru out-of-nowhere jumps off the back of Syne, only to land behind Loore on Ember. Ember now struggling to fly because of the weight, slowly flattens out and then slowly starts to go towards the earth. Instantly, without any hesitation, Dru pulls his blade and impacts the side of Loore with it. Loore only could react by whipping back to knock Dru off balance, and send him tumbling down to the earth.
Dru, floating toward the earth, is quickly picking up the pace. The trees getting larger, and the clouds getting smaller. Thoughts imaging through out his mind. Is he going to die? How is he going to live? What is going to happen?
As Dru is blinking in and out of consciouness, in the far distance, he sees a small siloquette coming toward him only to be getting larger...
