Vampires
Vampires
I walk down the darkened alley, prowling
My voracious appetite makes my stomach start growling
While others are sleeping I am trying to survive
For I cannot walk in sunlight and remain alive
My fangs are sharp as knives
But I must taste the elixir that sustains lives
For no matter how much I drink
This insatiable thirst is the only thing of which I think
My senses hone in on my prey
He is asleep under trash, but he will not awaken to see the light of day
As I am about to give him a dark gift
Which will set his mind completely adrift
For once I bite into his flesh
He will begin to change into a monster, more or less
His body will begin to be enstrenghtened
And begin to bring about it’s own regeneration
But this gift is tainted, it comes with a price
For in fine print it has catches thrice
Such as an extreme allergic reaction
To things such as garlic and silver in any contraption
Second of catches, sunlight is bad for you
Even glimpsing it can rend you in two
But worst of all is the thirsting, the craving
That cannot be satisfied except by one thing
As I creep towards my meal
A rat makes a very loud squeal
I lock up like a statue
So as to disappear from my prey’s view
But, alas, my nourishment sleeps sound
And no other movements are felt for seeming miles around
I am within striking distance
So I lunge to cover his mouth to prevent him from getting a chance
Quick as I can I sink my teeth into his neck
And drink from his blood without losing a speck
The surge of energy rushing through my body
I am ecstatic, though my euphoria is costly
My skin is tingling
From the elation of my blood mingling
But I am aware of my great peril
As the sun will rise in minutes and I am becoming quite feral
I search frantically for a place to hide
I can feel my precious darkness begin to subside
Then a strange glint catches my eye
A manhole cover! My chance to survive!
Muscles rippling, I flip the lid
Down in the darkness is where I hid
I had to get away from the light
So I can live to see another night.
