News Brief
A slight attempt to describe today’s events)
I, self indulgent, give my heart to you dear world
I, like you, come off too involved within myself
So I am not sure what parades across the screen when the news debuts
For it’s nightly presentation
However, I take this time usually used for myself and devote my hour to you
The 10 o’clock news
A beating on 5th and Hines, drug related they say
Shootings with bullets astray, piercing not only the young girls leg
But the family of all victims and neighbors convicts and gang bangers
World saviors in political forms debate their views on
Crime, religion and gay marriage
Healthcare benefits, education, and the war on terror
Iraq, Afghanistan and the economy and environmental improvements
Green saviors in their own way
And how does each candidate stand
State to state while going head to head to beat each other
Fair and square in a democratic way
NBA, NFL, MBA, NHL, and other forms thereof
Titles and scores, players behind bars
Celebrities made bigger stars while flaunting
Big sunglasses, big cars, big bags, wearing rags as the new fad
Petty bickering between heiresses and families,
While real wars wage with people maybe in their own family, distant cousin
Or illegitimate sibling may make them realize reality instead of fantasy and notice
The real big bickering occurring
Doctors sued for millions, malpractice of course
Scientists improving life, researchers and such on track
For innovative ideas ready by 2029
Ethel from Alabama turned 102 today,
A man throws his 4 kids into a river,
Not for play
Funeral services to be announced tomorrow
Ozone crumbling like flaky biscuits
Inside devoured by hungry participants
Driving here, instead of riding there
Throwing instead of reusing that recyclable dinnerware
Pockets hung low with change cause dollars drifting away
Like evaporating rain as gas prices coast on a not so fun
Pricey rollercoaster ride
Tomorrow we start again, same time different day,
Not surprisingly the same news delivered with a different face,
A different view, a different story or two
11 o’clock
An hour of life has passed, never to return
And I, self indulgent, gave my heart to you dear world
All for the 10 o’clock news
And I sadly can not tell whether or not my hour could have been
Put to better use
