two takes on the word

[The Pharcyde]

i.

in my brother's artwork,
wired stick figures are glued
to cardboard paper

one of them is holding a bat
while others surround a kneeling
body they kick and stomp

i ask Drew, what's the title?
he says, "White Boy Said the
N-Word on the Ball Court"


ii.

sophomores then, we looked
around the dining hall to see
if anyone else heard him

Steffan and i shared a table
with a freckled-face red-head
who used the N-word to describe
his black friend sitting with him

until that moment, we swore
we'd rip the head off any of them
brave or stupid enough
to use that word around us

we should have grabbed his collar,
yanked him across the table and
stomped him like those stick-figures
fed up with the sense of entitlement
some folks carry around with them

but all we could do was watch
the brotha embrace his white friend
laughing as if one of us had said it

This was deep. I often argue with myself about that very subject.

ahhhh the infamous N word....probably the greatest engima's of the human language...I use it with my friends but cringe when I hear it from other peoples lips....I can't explain why....have you seen the documentary on the N word....very interesting...and then look at Richard Pryor who coined the term for the black community then later decided never to use it again.....just powerful stuff

[Poetic Concept]

think this poem has a very strong sense of unity, it underscores a very critical subject and extremely controversial I think this was great keep this up elevation is the key

Very well written....What I Don't Understand Sometimes , Why Its Always The Arrogent Black Males To Be The First People To Fight When Someone White Uses It.. When Half Of Them Don't Even Know The Roots Behind The Name. Hell, Were So Rebellious Of Slavery Yet Were The Hypocrits Constantly Referring To One Another With A Name The Whites Gave Us (N-word).. Phew_I Liked This Never the less..Moves Me Truly
