Can U C the Pride in the Pather

can U C the Pride in the Pantha
as he glows in splendor and grace
Toppling OBSTACLES placed in the way
of the progression of his race

can U C the pride in the Pantha
as she nurtures her young all alone
the seed must grow regardless
of the fact that its planted in stone

can't U C the pride in the Panthas
as they unify as one
the flower blooms with brilliance
and outshines the rays of the sun

Definetly one of his best poems. I really loved the version of this that Mos Def did for the audio Album.

Hahaha... great poetry you say? You know who else is a great poet then? •••el.

This is better than about 1/3 of the shit you see in a community college creative writing class... maybe.

Using a flower as a symbol of beauty/growth is cliche... or, as they would say in the rap world... played. I've heard/read it before, many times, and usually done better. the little play on words between an actual panther and the black panthers (I'm assuming that's what it was) is ridiculous... come on now, you know that's what it is from the start, or anyone who's not a retard does, so why pluralize the last anaphora repitition? Because he was afraid it'd go over the headz of rap fans.
Maybe he was a good poet, and just never lived up to it because he was afraid of going over the headz of his fanz... haha z. But from what he's left as record, he was not a great poet... but in all honesty, most of the world doesn't appreciate poetry... that's why, shit... someone, maybe it was Eliott... who said "I write poetry for poets, for the world I write prose."

If you want to read about civil rights, or about black's issues... read Toni Morrison, or Langston Hughes, or Chinua Achebe, or Amiri Baraka... there's actually good stuff written along the same lines by real writers.

A lot of people don't enjoy reading Toni Morrison. I love Langston Hughes, but if you're interested in reading about the history of the civil rights movement you might want to go to the sources...i.e. Malcolm X, or Huey P. Newton, or Martin Luther King Jr.---I am partial to nonviolence...Or you might want to read something written by Tupac's exiled cousing Assata Shakur...Her book is called Assata. As far as poetry is concerned, be your own judge. Good poetry is written in a personal way, and that's why people enjoy reading poetry that seems to speak to their personality. One of my new favorites is Rumi.

Who cares if you've seen it before, I've seen alot of stuff before that looks and feels different in a different place, at a different time, in a different mood then the first time, or sixtith time I've seen something...Tupac makes a great poet.

And Tomorrow

Today is filled with anger
fueled with hidden hate
scared of being outcast
afraid of common fate
Today is built on tragedies
which no one wants 2 face
nightmares 2 humanities
and morally disgraced
Tonight is filled with rage
violence in the air
children bred with ruthlessness
because no one at home cares
Tonight I lay my head down
but the pressure never stops
knawing at my sanity
content when I am dropped
But 2morrow I c change
a chance 2 build a new
Built on spirit intent of Heart
and ideals
based on truth
and tomorrow I wake with second wind
and strong because of pride
2 know I fought with all my heart 2 keep my
dream alive -tupac

the rose that grew from concrete was a great piece. Even though pac comes across as pretty cliche and predictable sometimes, he's better than a handful of poets in the realm.
