The Reading Rainbow
I cracked myself up with that title. C'mon I know ya'll remember that show.
Anyways, I just wanted to see what everyone else is reading. Fiction, Non-fiction, Poetry, Comics, or whatever else. I'm just curious. Here's some stuff I've been reading lately.

Noam Chomsky----A lot of this. Brilliant stuff. Manufacturing Consent is awesome.
Howard Zinn---A People's History of the United States. Too True.
The Gnostic Gospels by Elaine Pagels. If you think you're a christian, it's a must read.
The Huey P. Newton Reader. Name says it all.
Learn to Meditate, it's a beginners guide to meditation.
Leaves of Grass, Walt Whitman
Death Blossoms-- Mumia

And also fiction:
I love Anne Rice. She's Deep.
Stephen King is just so damn skillful.
Chuck Palhaniuk(I think that's how it's spelled) Author of Fight club.
Jack Kerouac, great stuff, started the beat movement.
And other various classics like Siddhartha.

Yeah, they are really hard to find. I'm glad you know that.
I didn't find it in a local bookstore. I found it at Borders in Nashvegas.lol It's an excellent book. Before reading what he wrote, I totally underestimated him. I admit it. But just a page or two in and I was Impressed. I think he's really misunderstood. It seems like he spent as much time clarifying himself, in his writings, to the people who misunderstood his posistion, than he actually spent covering new ground. But he was under constant attack for what he was saying. Anyways, you could probably find plenty of books on line about him, although I rarely purchase online.
I'm not positive they would have any, but you might checkout AK-press.com. I guess it's akpress.com.lol They've got a lot of others too. They're independent, so they can choose to sell whatever they want and you can bet that somebody working there has read them. later.

Walt Whitman is awesome. Such a cool, but eccentric guy. Misunderstood by almost everyone but the most open-minded intellectuals. He was a transcendentalist(sp?).

I haven't read bag of bones yet, I just re-read IT. I love the metaphor about overcoming your fears. A good book. I've read the gunslinger and I want to go ahead and finish up the Dark Tower series. I've heard such wonderful things.lol. later.

I'm bad with names - so authors I don't much remember unless they're that big or the book is right in front of me...

In the past few (two) months I've read:
Miss Ophelia (fiction, set in the south during the 40s/50s)
Six Easy Pieces (collection of mysteries by the same author, technically I didn't finish - I gave it away to my then friend so he could finish and tell me how the last story ended)
Sistergirls.com (waste of publishing - another collection of stories about men meeting women on the internet - one of the stories was funny and interesting)
Wendy's Got The Heat (good read! two thumbs up! Wendy Williams' autobiography)

um...lots of text books and I just started Toni Morrison's Love, but I've decided to wait until I finish up classes so I can concentrate on that mutha! I always need a quiet room with no distractions to read Toni.

Too Short- Yes Anne Rice is probably my favorite fiction author. The vampire series was it for me. Lestat is my hero, Merrick, and little Tarquin, hell they're all cool.
As for the serial killers thing, I've never gotten into true crime stuff, Maybe I'll like it later but I doubt it.

Sag Infant- Well, most of that stuff I've never heard of.lol. But I've heard of Toni. I've never read any. But I do look forward to it. later

Skizza-- I've never read the HitchHikers guide but I've heard some great things about it. I'll check it out. What poetry books ya talkin about?

The Varieties of Religious Experience was incredible, to me. I'll pass on most of that stuff, like Freud. Dracula is awesome. Siddhartha is cool. And Jung's Autobiography sounds awesome. The poetry I'm sure is cool, but I've only read select pieces from those named.

This was the second time I read the Varieties, and, yeah, it is very good. It's a great initiation to the study of religion, and focuses more on people's personal experiences, rather than religious dogma. It's very open minded.

Dracula, however, sucked. It's riddled with far too many superlatives. "She was the bravest" "It was the scariest" "She was the evillest" so on and so forth. The first section of the book in Transylvania was great, but the rest of the book was weak compared to it.

Freud, however, was one of the most interesting things I've read in a good year or so. People are turned off from his overly sexual theory, but Civilization and Its Discontents is not so much a recapitulation of those theories as an attempt to understand society. It's really bloody interesting, and I strongly recommend it.

If you want some good poems by those poets listed, let me know. I'll spare you their long narratives and suggest their smaller gems.
