Spoken word poetry ain't a damn thang but actin', homie. Denzel's the best at it. If he could come out and just do a Malcolm X speech or Steve Biko speech like he did in 2 of his most noted movies, that'd be enough to make me NEVER touch that stage after him.

There's more to spoken word than theatrics... like originality... there would be nothing original about him doing an immitation...

now if Denzel has poetic skills and can create something original.. or something offered from a different spectrum of view.. i'd say yeah... but there's a hell of alot more to spoken word than theatrics

There is value in representing that which has been poetic throughout history. It would be the equivalent of some of the poems posted in here.

Ayo...Black....I really respect your opinions and ideas man, I can see and understand what you are saying. Many of the poems written on this board are no better than simple things written about past experiences and some of them not very poetically, but to say that Denzel is at that point where he could make me not ever want to touch the stage after a speech written by someone else for someone else is out of my touch. I must agree that your list would be an extremely entertaining group to watch and hear, but I was expecting a list of some of the lesser known or unheard-from cats out there. Maybe even some older heads...
Of course its all a degree of perception and your own ideas...So these opinions and thoughts are merely mine...

Uh, the post was about famous people...

Every show, they have one famous person who is not primarily a poet: maybe an actor or a musician (Dave Chappelle, Ced the Entertainer, Jaimie Fox, Jill Scott, Erykah, Rakim, Keith Murray, malcolm jamaal warner, etc.)

I think it would be interesting to see Denzel's rendition of another work. That's been done too on there. One of the Kennedy women did that. She sucked ass.

Rather see Denzel do it.

Thanx for clearing up what you were discussing! Ive seen the show, I remember when Dave Chappelle did his piece about Mr Fong the Korean and when Jaimie Fox did the Shizzle piece...I know they have people like that on, but I had not realized that was what was being discussed...My fault!

i wanna be on DEF poetry - i do coffee house readings all the time for those who know what they are, and i tell you the second most addictive drug in the world is the sound of a standing ovation. (the most addictive drug being the opposite sex) i think it would be so sweet to have my work broadcast to millions of people. but i am probably just hallucinating lol somebody stop me before i say something really stupid
