Drum (It's about time)

it's about time...
I was born with an African drum on the inside of my chest beating the inner lining of my rib cage,

coloring my spirit with such passion

I am forced to exhale a sigh

so uninhibited , released from a truth found so deep within

my spine shivers as if brushed with death

I kid you not

and I am humbled by it's presence

See I know the alphabet is the blood that fills these veins

cut me and I bleed scripture

a misunderstood martyr

slanging today's proverbs as tomorrows cliches

so try not and hide behind your eyelids

because your ears will still seek clarity

And these poems

continue to be written with a phantom hand

I am nothing but a marionette dancing the puppeteers dance

an untrained ballerina

I tippy my toes see ²²²²²s live this life time balancing act

walking the balance beam between black and human

from black-black-blue black to high yellow

so don't tell me you know the color of my pain

when you don't even know my real first name

BlackSoultan Ad Infinitum, what's up I've been reading your posts and you seem to be very well versed in poetry and what not. I was wondering if you were self publishing your book or if you were working with an agent or whatever? I'm assuming you live in Cali somewhere if you are cool with Shihan. I'm a fan of the few performances I've seen of him (Def Poetry). I was intereseted in talking to you about some things because I'm working on a manuscript and wanted to see where you are in terms of putting out your book. I'm not a spoken word poet like alot of the poets that we see on tv. Well I don't want to have you reading this for hours I was just interested in talking about some things over email or whatever, if you don't want to that is fine. But thanks for reading this, if you do.

First, I don't know shihan like that. Our paths cross and we touch the same mics some nights. As far as a book? Most of the cats I know put them out themselves because there really isn't that huge a market for it.
