Sleepless Nights


Room completely dark - except for the orange tip,
of the cigarette hanging from my lips that I just lit~
contemplating another day's worth of pain and agony~
sometimes I think my sensitivity only brings out the fag in me~
take another drag cuz see - I've been here before, down the same path~
my past is scattered with the wrath of life's harshest reality acts~
fallicy and facts - they've all been scrambled within my brain~
not insane, I'm just stained by everything that goes against the grain~
in my veins the blood slows as my mind and body grow weak~
and my pain - it does show in the bags right above my cheeks~
And beneath my eyes - take a deep sigh and realize what lies ahead~
another night I'll sit and cry and try to sleep in my bed~
all alone - I've grown prone to lying side by side with my love~
But my love has gone awry - I no longer have that glove~
Bare hands - a bare man who cares and may try too hard~
I stare and glance there - hoping to see through the dark~
For inner peace I've embarked only to find myself stranded~
I pray everynight to my Lord - going to him open handed~
Begging for guidance - uplifting - the smallest sign of help~
Lord knows I've seeked and I've searched - but can't find myself~
I don't mind myself - Hell I'm only crazy if I answer my own questions~
When I go to him I take nothing beyond my confessions~
And this session is everynight - I lay restless til the light~
of Day breaks - then I'm stuck in anticipation of another night~
My plight goes on and on as my eyelids gain more weight~
About to lose my job because I just can't stay awake~
I have Faith - but it seems fate has taken control on a power trip~
Lay awake and count mistakes - see how long an hour gets~
a sour tip on my tongue - it's permanently left bitter~
I've turned into a no one - I was once a go getter~
But I don't suffer from insomnia - my disease is within my own torso~
my heart and soul have gone broke so my emotions run forceful~
Strong winds and gusts of grief keep me afloat above sleep~
And I just can't let go of the boat because my love goes deep~
I've grown meek, I hardly eat - just enough to stay alive~
If I reach I know I can make it - for another day I will strive~
But as I put out my last cigarette thinking how smoking will soon end my life~
I lay here staring into the black and think - can I take another sleepless night?
