nina simone has always been one of my favorites. you can hear that woman's pain in a lot of her songs. roy ayers is also slept on. he's probably one of the most sampled musicians of all time but yet no one's heard of him.

billie holiday is also worth mentioning.

Kind of Blue ( the Miles Davis album Pyro posted) is nice as hell. Especially the fourth track.


Well... to answer your question........look up some Tommy DOrsey, Benny Goodman, Artie shaw...... all of them are big band musicians/composers...

Sarah Vaughan is the greatest Jazz vocalist of all time, in my opinion.... so she'd be someone to check out, if you haven't already.

I've never really been pointed in any particular direction, I just always listened to whatever I could find in my spare time. Being a rock devotee, I obviously tried some fusion, but tbh I wasn't big on it. I tried a few Coltrane tracks and they didn't impress me, but the reason I make this thread is because I want specifics. Maybe the Coltrane tracks I listened to didn't do the man justice.

I want people to name tracks and albums rather than just the artists. I saw someone ask what my tastes were, but part of the point of this thread is to expand my tastes and appreciate the things that please other ears besides my own.
