John Mayer's solo was good on his cover of Hendrix's 'Bold as Love'
That statement made me throw up a little.
Vai's solo on Bold As Love is sick.
Page on Good Times Bad Times...

There's no denying, every studio album he's put out, is garbage and Continum is largely boring. You can't deny 'Where the Light Is'.
I think he did 'Bold As Love' justice if you ignore his voice. 'Who Did you Think I Was' had a good Hendrix riff and styled solos too. That said, the rest of his Hendrix covers are vomit inducing.
I think the solos from 'Gravity', Out of My Mind', Who did you think I was?', I don't Need No doctor', 'Belief' and 'Slow Dancing In a Burning Room' are pretty good.
I'm not saying he's a new 'guitar god', but he deserves a mention for his Live work.

Mr. narrator - this is bob dylan to me; my story could be his songs. I'm his soldier child. Our band is scientist rock, but I was E. Bloom and Richard hell, Joe Strummer, and John Doe...
...me and Mike Watt, playing guitar.

I can't agree with this.
I'll never deny his talent, John Mayer is one of the best blues guitarists of our generation (unfortunately). I just hate everything he does because he never uses the extent of his potential...

Mayer is just another generic R&B/blues guitarist. Has chops, yes, but he does nothing special. Lenny Kravitz and sometimes Kenny Olson are the same, even though I like a lot of Olson's work.
Solos are great when they add something to the song. It sucks when you can hear a person just showing off, but you listen to songs by Hendrix and it's impossible to imagine the songs without the solos. All along the watchtower is a good example of this. Each solo has a life of its own and they all add tension to the song and keep the listener interested.
Hammett's solo on the unforgiven was great.

I think he reached his peak with the Live album. He's not a blues player. He can replicate it pretty well, which is why I think he deserves more than a comparision to Lenny Kravitz. He has excellent musicians behind him, but he doesn't play with them. He solos over the stop, almost just showing off, pulling some stupid face, before he breaks the song and starts talking about going to 'that place'. So I agree.
He's pretencious and a replica. He'll probably score a 'Slowhand', R'n'B type album at best.
He brings the cynics upon himself, by trying to mimic post blues Clapton, SRV, King and Hendrix. Though that shouldn't stop people appreciating the Live album for what it is. A half decent guitar player, playing some half decent music.

^lol, I would say he's a great guitar player playing shitty music.
Kenny Olsen actually played at Experience Hendrix, he was pretty sick. I always dismissed him as Kid Rock's player, so I thought he sucked, turns out he's damn good.
Always hated Lenny Kravitz for being Hendrix's cock jockey.
I think Mayer is more like Clapton in his later years than anything. Super-soft, blues inspired music...

Oh and I'm adding Waterfall (May This Be Love) - by Jimi to list.
I love melody-intense solos...

Yeah. Olson's the only reason I ever listen to Kid Rock's Cocky. I think he has some of the best phrasing of our era.
