now, you wanna talk about mimicking? talk about joss stone. she's trendy and so devoid of soul to me. she's all about trying to create a sound rather than really get in touch with the feeling. want proof? look at that video you posted. see how she stops in the middle of her singing, smiles, and says, "wait for it... this is my favorite part"?

shows she's obviously not into it and only obsessed with the sound of her voice. she has a soulful sounding voice, but she's phony and isn't soul... at least, not in my opinion. i've thought that about her since day one.

it's all relative though... people feel things differently based on their own experiences. i respect you not feeling gayle, but i don't see how one couldn't

well, i don't hold stone's high profile status against her. that's not what i refer to when i say "trendy".

ever since she arrived on the scene, she's seemed like she's already had this rehearsed and readymade image for herself. "hey, look at me! i'm a white girl who grew up listening to black music and have a somewhat 'black' voice... hear me sing with the same style as the legends!"

could be wrong, but that's the impression i got from her at the first encounter. yes, she sounds nice, but again... it's not all about the sound.

i don't feel joss for joss... i feel joss for her love for music she grew up liking to listen to

gayle? she's just real and raw to me

Ok...well one could say the same thing about Teena Marie whom i really am NOT a fan of. She learned the art through association, dick and practice....I am convinced. And you know good and well the marketers JUMP ON a white chick with a soulfull voice, it wasn't Joss' fault.

Teena can sing yeah...but ...to me her voice is irritating....the nuonces (sp?)....its just irritating....but thats just me...kinda like Patti LaBelle's high pitch wail...its just irritating sometimes...
