Get a PS3/Blu-ray! screen shots
For just $500 you can get a PS3/Blu-ray player which is currently cheaper than any Blu-ray stand alone player out today. For me the PS3 is a Blu-ray player 1st and a game console 2nd. Not only does Blu-ray show a dramatic increase in picture quality it also has a lot better sound.

Crank has the best picture quality on both formats that I've seen so far. I highly recommend anyone with an HDTV and a PS3 to pick it up.

my projector only goes up to 720p...Is the difference major?

You will notice a difference going from 480p to 720p but the change wont be as drastic at 720p to 1080p. Though I wouldn't get a PS3 just yet...from what I hear if you set it to 720p it'll downscale it to 480p. You have to have at least 1080i. I think Sony has a fix in the works.

I'll probably post more pics when I have time. But you actually have to watch Blu-ray to see the huge difference it can make.

Some discs have bad transfers like Talledega Nights don't let this be your reference. Pick up/rent something like:
Kingdom of Heaven
Ice Age
Crank
Corpse Bride
MI:3
Kung Fu Hustle
Underworld
The Wild

These have some of the best transfers out.

They have some promising looking games coming up. The Grand Turismo demo I downloaded has better graphics than anything I've seen on the 360 including Gears of War.

That picture is amazing...however I can't justify spending that much on a player and when movies cost almost double regular dvd's...I was so close to pulling the trigger on a 720p projector a few weeks ago, but the model I wanted was dc'd. I wanted something bigger than my 37 inch lcd, but I'll wait...

If you want cheaper BD's(Blu-ray Discs) go to www.amazon.com you can get a lot of movies for just $19.95. I picked up Crank at Best Buy for just $24.

I cant bring myself to buy another standard DVD again even though I have a HD DVD player that can upconvert them into 1080p, even then it pales in comparison to a decent Blu-ray transfer.

You will notice a difference going from 480p to 720p but the change wont be as drastic at 720p to 1080p. At least I don't think so.

Blu-Ray = movie version of mini-disc.....at least, that's what i'm expecting. Everyone just got converted to dvd's...now blu-ray? No way it lasts.

I believe they have some coming to HD DVD and I'm pretty sure Blu-ray has the support of one of the major studios.

I'm not sure how long mini-disc lasted. But Blu-ray has a great line up for '07. Blu-ray currently has 7 out of the top 8 movie studios supporting them with only Universal staying exclusive to HD DVD.
