, yeah, you do this with Peyton Manning
You have to learn to stop taking it out on the people who are praised, because most of the time they're not asking for it... And, even if/when they do ask for it, they won't always get it. If you disagree with the consensus, concentrate on the people who have the ultimate responsibility in creating it. It's unfair to the person who's simply doing their job.
And, nobody's "pretending".
Anidawehi, you forgot to mention
Scarecrow and
Serpico.
Versatility isn't the only thing an actor should be measured by, and you often give it too much weight, Rippy. Many actors and actresses have extended themselves by taking on roles that challenge and do a consistently good job at it, but at the same time many of those performances never really reach the level of "great" simply because it wasn't the ideal role for them.
If I'm a casting director, chances are I'm going to be looking for someone who's not only proven to be a good actor but more predisposed to fit the character rather than experiment by looking for someone who's wanting to "branch out" and challenge themselves since it represents more of a risk. I want the most reliable recipe for my film, not give random stars the chance to prove themselves. That's actually why you see a lot of actors being stuck in familiar roles, not because they themselves are afraid to take chances.

there are tons of people out there that can play diverse roles and would enjoy doing so. Myself for instance....lol

Yes, there are tons of people out there that "can", but will they necessarily be any good? Great even?

Best Actor or Actress Awards aren't always handed to the nominee who took on the most risk with their character, and they shouldn't have to be.
