Im Pregnant ..
Just found out that Im pregnant last night .. 2 months pregnant. I havent been to the doctor yet and Im so afraid. Im scared about having a baby because Ive had medical problems before. Nothing too serious but nothing that can be overlooked either .. My family isn't gonna be very thrilled about it either since My family is Muslim .. The only thing I have going for me right now is that the father of my child is in my life and he is very supportive ..

I know this may be the wrong place to ask for some advice or guidance, but I know there must be some ladies on here who have been in my situation. What should I expect? And how should I break the news to my parents? I'm 23 years old and in med school by the way.

First congrats.

I don't know about telling your family and any advice I can give you there. Just hope it all goes well. It's really nice to hear the father is around and supportive! That helps a ton. There is a tread started about child birth and what to expect....It has a few inputs from Mom's on this board and what they went through :o)

congrats on being preg....how do you know exactly how far along you are?....going to the doctor soon is very important and since you're in med school i'm sure you know how important prenatal care is!....i don't know what to say about telling your fam and stuff but even if they are upset at first it will probably change after a few weeks and they will actually be excited after they get over the initial shock of the news...

Congratulations JP.. When I told my parents they were happy and I knew they would be so I don't know how to give you advice on that... I guess just maybe sit them down and tell them that you are pregnant and you are having the baby wether they like it or not and they can make the choice if they want to be in the babies life... I think the best way might be straight to the point and firm so they know you're not messing around..

secondly in reference to what you said about your parents...

I understand what your sayin, because i know what its like for young muslim women to get pregnant b4 marriage, reason being i live in the UK, the area im at is very diverse culture wise, and i have many indian/muslim etc friends, plus im Indian myself, i may not be muslim, but i knw most hte htings there are to know, so on that note, i aint gonna sit here and lie and say it will be easy... because you know urself it wont be.

Do your parents know about your boyfriend firstly? I know within muslim religion most parents are very strict when it comes to dating guys, and sex, well that be out the question... You know inside what you've got to do, and your lucky you have your man by your side. Inside only you knw how your parents will react, and sometimes we cloud our own vision and hope for the best, and nothing wrong with that, just be truthful, be honest, tell them your with someone, and tell them your pregnant, if your closer to perhaps your mom then tell her first, if not then at least go and tell somebody else in your family, coz right now honey you need all the support you can get, being pregnant i imagine is a very stressful but beautiful experience...

If you needa talk ever, jus get at me...

Thank you guys so much so far for all this advice.To be honest I am very excited about the baby just as much as I am scared .. Im gonna definatly have it since I dont believe in abortion .. I know its probably about 2 months because that was the only time I had unprotected sex with my boyfriend .. It was around Christmas time.

As far as my parents go.. I know for a fact that they are gonna fall out when I tell them. The rest of my family is too. I have always been the black sheep in the family; following my own beliefs, and doing my own thing. I even live alone, whereas most single muslim women still live at hom with their family. My parents know about my boyfriend, they hated it at first but they do like him they just dont take any part in that part of my life .. When do pregnant ladies start showing? Im kinda small framed so it will probably be evident soon, lol. I think I should tell them before that happens..

Usually you'll start showing around 16 weeks.. When you go to the Dr's he should give you some information or he'll tell you of some books you can buy to read up on what's happening during your pregnancy..

I had 2 books.. "What To Expect When You're Expecting" & "Your Pregnancy Week By Week"





What to expect when your expecting has alot of information but doesnt tell you as much about what is going on by week, that's why I got both of them...

damn@ u being in med school....i dont believe in abortions...but if u were to have one, i wouldnt be mad at you....my girl is in med school...needless to say, i dont see spend as much time with her as i wish i could....i cant imagine a new baby in the picture....ur gonna have to postpone school....just uhhh...make sure u go BACK to school when ur able to.......dont let your progress go to waste...good luck with your new level of womenhood

Ive already spoken to my adviser well a little and she says I can take a couple of my thesis classes online and then once I have the baby I can just have my baby in the day care at school while im In class if I need to. I dont plan on post poning med school but I will if I have to. My boyfriend is very supportive so Im not too worried about it.

Yeah. There's no reason to drop out. I mean, I finished high school (not the same as med school, but school is school lol). I graduated and 9 days after grad, I gave birth. I went to full term and stayed attending school. There was no way I was missing out on getting my education. If you can, keep at it. ;o)

Well...I'm Muslim and my youngest son was out of wedlock. And guess what...they will trip but so what. Here's the thing, you can't change it and for a child to be born from these circumstances (two cordial supportive parents) is a blessing in this day and age. ALLAH does not hate you either so DON'T put your mind there. Take your vitamins and EXTRA calcium suppluments because that baby will take ALL YOU GOT!!!! Trust me. After 4 boys I have to be very careful with my teeth and I'm blessed I still have them,lol!!! A lot of mothers out here have a lot of obstacles with their teeth due to not keeping up with their nutrition.

Keep your mind positive. Feed your body good physical AND MENTAL food. It will make a difference. And I would suggest breast feeding. It may be difficult but if you can swing the first couple of months at least it WILL make a difference.

I know its hard to tell your family but I hav been there and you just need to tell them even they will get mad. My dad wasn't to happy but once his grandson was born is was a different story.
