independance

Do you think that women becoming more and more independant makes men want to be more independant also? I realised the other day that I seemed to be more focused on getting my own stuff together than meeting up with someone and thought that maybe I have been influenced by these independant women. People tend to think that because women seem to be much more independant these days, that they must be breaking free from what men have always had as fundamental, but it's not true. Men have always been dependant on women, perhaps not as much as women have been on men for economic reasons, but this dependance has never been a one way flow like some people make it out to be.

I don't know that it makes men want to be more independent, but rather forces them in a position where they have to be - ex: domestically, etc. - they pretty much have no choice but to fend for themselves in the areas women used to typically occupy... especially when they're single. Men have always had to "have it together" financially because they were expected to be the primary providers for their families... if anything, I think that inclination has actually taken a turn for the worst.

This was a good topic, Brit... I don't know why it didn't take off.
