yo, they weren't assumptions made by one man. many believe that, and that scholar has backed it up with written proof from the Qur'an and the hadith (traditions of the Prophet).

i really don't know why the popular belief seems to be she was under the age of 10. seriously, if i had a way of finding out the method of translating hadith i would sincerely sit down and go through it. but i haven't mastered the language of arabic yet.

some say she was under 10, some say she wasn't. i, knowing the characteristics of the Prophet believe (or you can say assume) that she was not under the age of 10. read on the behavourial patterns of the Prophet Muhammad and tell me anything else you have an issue on.

As for the whole clothing issue. The only problem I have with that is that the concept is based on the idea that a man cannot control his urges to have sex with a woman. So when a woman is scantily clad, she always becomes a sexual object.
