Race is such a double-edged sword. It was created to divide people according to skin color and to give 'white people' privilege... but now that it's been so deeply entrenched into human society for centuries, people have become attached to it and have derived a sense of pride from being a member of such an arbitrarily, divisive concoction called "race."

The US Census Bureau is thinking about getting rid of the race category on census forms, because it's been proven to be an unscientific and inherently racist categorization... and of course, civil rights groups are all up in arms about it. "That will dilute black political strength." As if 'multi-culturalism' didn't do that already... and since when has the black political class been "strong?"

For the 2000 Census, there was talk about adding a "multiracial" category to describe "mixed" people, but the black groups intervened then and so a compromise was made... allow people to choose more than one category. However, people who choose "white" and then another minority category are automatically counted as "minority." Aha!... the "one drop rule" lives on, bitchez!!

So what do you think? Should we get rid of race altogether?

That word has caused the death of more people than any other word in the history of humanity.

We don't need to edit language. We need to fix the people who feel the need to use that language.

I don't think if you eliminate race, you'll get rid of racism. I don't know what I think. I'm beginning to think that the concept of race is a sacred cow now like social security or welfare. People are too dependent on it for their existence.

^Ha ha... I was gonna mention that, but I think you're taking the reaction out of context.

It's the fact that the word "articulate" is always used to describe an educated black person like it's an anomaly, while white people are automatically assumed to be such. The subtext really is... "he's articulate... for a black guy." There have been numerous articulate white candidates for President over the years, but they never get mentioned as such... why? Because it's taken for granted... while for black people, it's a surprise.

I try not to get pissed off about race or racism anymore... because I realize that they're just ignorant... but unlike me, they don't recognize it... but every now and then, the Chuck D/Malcom X/Huey Newton in me comes out.

I saw the first part of that show... how did it end? I long for the days when they were spewing racial epithets left and right on network television during the '70s and '80s... "All in the Family," "The Jeffersons," "Good Times," etc.... none of those shows would last at all today.
