Is it true?

Watching Bruce Lee movies made me realized how much I am not "in control" of my body, so I planned to get his books discussing his martial art. I read an excerpt of his book, saying medical experts say if you rest for more than a day between workouts, you lose MOST of the benefits you gained. Yet, if you workout to the extent you are feeling pain for a day or two, doesn't that sort of contradicts the medical experts? I planned to rest on weekends then resume my workouts on weekdays.

what is your training schedule?

These questions have more than one answer, so I can't answer it without seeing your training schedule.

I am being taught Wing Chun from a master who was taught Wing chun from the same sifu who trained Bruce Lee. My Sifu's initials are BL.....same as Bruce Lee. His Sifu is widely quoted as saying his 2 best students of all time were Bruce Lee and my Intstructor...you can look it all up, its not secret info...I wont name his name, but if you look it up you will see im not bullshittin you...for martial arts like kung fu, you want to stay lean and flexible, huge bulging muscles do not help your speed or flexibility, you will never see a pro-champion kung fu practitioner whos built like a wrestler... You will see them all lean, cut, and explosive.
maybe for speed and conditioning a rest day is bad? i dunno the wording maybe confusing me LOL

say you worked out 1nce a week, it would be a long time till you saw any results...

i split my muscle group workouts into 4 seperate days, that means there is atleast 3 days between repeated muscles group workouts, and i have great results, but my goal right now is building muscle....I get better results now in a 4 day routine than i ever did before with a 2 day routine, but i also attribute it to diet not superior workout routines, i eat better now than i did before which shows me diet is extremely important...

resting too long is no good....i agree

what about that asian guy from Bloodsport? he was a beast and wasnt he also like a kung-fu black belt?

as far as rest, the amount of rest you need depends on your body type. there are some people who really only need 1 or 2 days off, others need 3, some need 4 it also depends on the amount of excercise youre doing in those workouts and the amount youre doing in everyday life.

he might have been, but its not ideal for kung fu. Speed and flexibility are key components and bulky huge muscles inhibit speed and flexibility....also with alot of kung fu styles, If your opponent is bigger it gives you an advantage....Wing chun is an example.

I started last month, doing the weekdays only, until I read the excerpt two weeks ago, I immediately started doing 7 days for 3 hours using the 16 hours for rest. I'm doing exercise freestyle(no jumping ropes or weights, just using free sources such as my wall and pole in my closet.) I work with every part of my body, even my fingers, or do I need to be more specific?

I thought the eating was to help you exercise without so much burden and reduce laziness. I didn't know it contributed to shaping your body up.

I figured you'd have to be Bruce Lee's shape in order to perform Jeet Kune Do quickly, and yet effectively. His size contributed greatly to his incredible speed.

It says in Bruce Lee's Fighting Method Vol. 2

"It takes years to be in peak condition and, unfortunately, stamina is quickly lost when you cease to maintain high conditioning exercises. According to some medical experts, you lose most of your benefit from exercises if you skip more than a day between workouts."

Diet is Huge. You can work out for months and months on a shitty ass diet and get almost no results. Diet is probably atleast 60% of the total importance in an excersize regime. I didnt believe it till i experienced the difference myself.

1 year i worked out just eating like i had before i started working out....i got minimal and slow results, but i thought thats how it was.....then a few years later i got back into it, took care of what i ate and made sure i got lots of proteins and vitamines, in 4 months i got more results than i did in 8 months before with a bad diet.

sounds like you want to be fit and strong.....you should research crossfit(www.crossfit.com)and see if it works well with your goals, Crossfit is a great site with great excersizes that emphasize strength and conditioning. Its not for everyone because its probably harder than you were plannin on workin, but you WILL get awesome results if you get into it....

it might not have changed his speed, but how fast was he to begin with?

anywho someone smaller and with less bulk would have the ability to be faster. Bulky weightlifter muscles inhibit speed, its just science.
