This is great news for me. Sony finally decided to add HDMI output to the $499 PS3. Without it, you couldn't get the full experience of Blu-Ray. Your games and blu-ray films would be coming at 1080p, but your system (without HDMI output) would only send things @ 540p. The whole point of the damn thing costing so much was that you'd be getting a Blu-Ray player as well. With no HDMI you're essentially get DVD player.
But, Sony fixed that. Now, $499 is a real deal price of a PS3, not the price of some horribly crippled game machine. $499 is still a bit much, but its way better than $599.
