no it's not a battle. it has one battle type round in it where you have to incorporate an object/word chosen by the audience into the battle round. The rest is freestyling about stuff from a grab bag, etc.
"My partner and I have been throwing the SFMC BATTLE for the last 2 years, which started in March 2003. The battle has been a vehicle for untapped Bay Area MC's to showcase their skills on the mic. The party has been an ongoing success throughout the last 2 years. We have come to the realization that the battle does not truly show all forms of freestyle rap and this is why we came up with the Freestyle Olympics. The Freestyle Olympics are designed to showcase all the elements of Freestyle Rap. Instead of having a straight MC battle we will have different categories to showcase the different elements of freestyle which will be judged on a point system."
