co-sign...the only time id do use alot of EQ and compression is if im layerin kicks to make a new one...IE One for the attack, one for the decay, one filtered for the low end, one filtered for the mids...
Another thing the Pros do to get their drums to "bang" harder is CLIP them, about 2-3 DB over 0...if u look closely at most producers drums in a wave editor, ull sere there mostly squares...LiQuiD6 pointed this out to me
Everone from Scott Storch to Kayne to the Heatmakerz do this...
the only ppl i notice that dont really do this are south producers cause it sounds really distoreted when u clip an 808
however this doesnt sound very good when u do it digitally on software, it sounds better when u do it on hardware
