I think most of y'all may have got it a bit twisted from what I meant....
In many professions, there are things parallel to a "producer's producer"...I've heard of an "actor's actor", always hear about a "rapper's rapper", a "writer's writer" when it comes to books. In most other cases, this does NOT imply that this person isn't good enough to "make it"...but only that their style and method seems to please those who do the same thing more than the average person on the outside, because they see somethin about them that they respect more or look up to.
In Jazz music, the perfect example is those artists who play "fusion jazz", which is an artform that impresses jazz musicians more than anyone else. Many of the songs have no structure, no defined melody, and each artist basically freestyles the entire song...but their techniques and all that they do are very complex and advanced, to where most jazz musicians are extremely impressed by them. Now I'm sure that most of these artist know how to simplify or in the rap world, "dumb down" their sound and style to where it appeals to a regular audience...but overall, these musicians are usually seen as being most impressive to other musicians, because they have mastered their art at a completely different level.
Now that's basically what I meant when saying "Producer's producer"....I DEFINITELY didn't mean that these are people who makes beats that ONLY appeal to producers...or that they make beats to please producers before pleasing rappers and regular consumers. All it means is that they seem to do things that are above and beyond what's required for making a solid beat that someone could make a song to...and it could be great at times, and may even be bad at times, just depending on how good they are.
