alotta major studios wont let u touch the equipment unless u are certified.....

i was just in festival studios in new orleans this week for 4 days working with an artist recently signed to sony....they wouldnt let me touch shit in there.....all i had was a laptop my manager bought me and my midi keyboard.......they went ahead and rented the roland x8, motif and all that shit for me....but besides those things......they wouldnt let me touch nothin else in there........i didnt really need to anyway

but if ur main concern is to be a producer, dont waste ya time getting certified.....ur gonna have an engineer there with u in the major studios that do all the shitty work for you..... just cop a few books and learn......but dont waste money on a certification if u aint plannin on utilizin it to further your career as an engineer......which in my opinion....is a shitty ass job that i would NEVER do

i've had no problems working on pro tools rigs at metalworks, phase one, wellesley and many other huge toronto studios and i'm definitely NOT certified...

its one of those things people think are important because 'real jobs' require proof of a degree or something...it's the complete opposite in this business...demonstration of knowledge is 100000x better than a peice of paper saying you can do something

lmao @ engineer being a shitty job...you do realize that we make as much, if not more than, producers, right? also 90% of the good engineers out there are producers as well...and that every producer i've ever met has also had some degree of engineering knowledge...

it's important if you're going to be in the studio, period, step your knowledge game up

and engineering is a shitty job in MY opinion...has nothing to do with pay.....has everything to do with the job itself...which comprises of u servicing ppl who come into the studio and puttin up with their bullshit.........not my idea of a dream job.........its hardly musical.......its not enjoyable.......i dont enjoy it......thats my opinion......

but for your dumb ass to say any random cat off the street can go touchin shit in the studio soon as he walk in, is ridiculous......

when one track takes 12 days to mix/remix/record/whatever and the studio is getting a day rate of like $4000, you're hitting pretty close to that 50k mark

big name engineers make big fucking money, maybe not as much as a big name hip hop producer like timbo/lil john/neptunes etc, but they've also got like...1% of the responsibility

bob ludwig, possibly the most famous engineer on the planet, makes up to $5000/hour by mastering albums
