I guess this response is a little late but....

In my opinion they are a waste of time and money, especially if you are a hip hop or R&B producer. I went to one and the only thing I got out of it was a very, very basic understanding of protools, a whole lot of irrelevant information, and a 16,000.00 bill.
Most of these schools are sound engineering schools and they don't really teach much about music production. They attempt to teach you how to engineer.
You absolutely can learn more from youtube, other producers, and the experience of trial and error.

Recording School, Learn Audio Engineering Music Production Classes Recording Courses

click the link and take a look.. this is a condensed course that is well worth the price.. you will get all of the essentials that you would learn in school and none of the garbage and all for a fraction of the price of going to school.. the class can be taylored to your genre and style.. worth checking out.

School is what you make of it.. first things' first.. choosing the right one.. they are very much worth it if you take advantage of a good school..
