acouple stupid questions, keeping the time.

when mixing after having everything recorded, do you bounce everything to stereo then do all your effects? also how do you keep it in the right spot/or keep your spot when you bounce the files to stereo just match it up with the mono file? then remove the mono file? or is there another easier way? ty.

you do everything before bouncing. i usu save copies of un-messed-around-with versions of files just in case you decide to change effects.

Easier way...when you bounce down - bounce down the entire length of the track...including empty sections/silence to one long track. So if you have a track that comes in and out...maybe a hook you copied...and lets assume you have a 4 minute song...when you bounce down - that track should be a continuous 4 minute track starting @ 0:00:00. Then you don't have to worry about lining it back up.

Is it still even called bouncing down in a daw enviroment? I know that term was more used for hardware studios when trying to save tracks by bouncing down you could free up a track your not really freeing up tracks your mixing down in a daw right? Maybe wrong but i dont think its the same.

<-- considers "mix down" when you're doing the whole song to a two channel file/stereo track.

...but I make up words and terms all the time. Ain't no thang...

yeah that's the generally accepted definition now

although it used to be done back in the days of analog tape so that you could free up your tracks and record more stuff
